I think mine is the e260 - 2 gig sansa. The last time I turned it on, it resumed playing the album that had been playing the previous time I used it - as normal. When the album finished and I tried to play a new album, player allowed me to select a new album but locked up when I hit "Play All". I powered it off and tried several other albums the same way - each time it locked up when trying to play. Oddly, it DID allow me to play the one album originally playing when I first turned it on, but nothing else, Brought it home, hooked it up to the computer - the computer "dinged" as if a new device had been hooked up but e260 NOT shown in "My Computer". Device screen alternates between "Writing" and "Connected" but never recognized by "My Computer". I tried several of the fixes shown but device still not recognized, still alternating screens as before. BUT: The device is now apparently empty. When disconnected, I tried again to play music but device appears to be empty. I've never had anything but music files loaded on the device. Still not recognized in "My Computer", still alternates between "Writing" and "Connected" on device screen.
No reset button; I've tried several combinations of two buttons hoping to stumble on a reboot combo but so far no luck. I've tried the fixes already posted but it's still locked up. I tried this right away after it locked up - it turned the device off and back on but did not affect the problem. After hooking up to the computer and trying the other fixes the device is now empty - when I remove it from the computer and power it down, then back up it behaves properly but has no content. Hooked up to the computer it still alternates between "Writing" and "Connected"; when I remove it from the USB it simply freezes - right now it shows "Writing" until I power off.
Inserting micro sd card with content makes it go to the "Refresh Database" screen but it just stalls there.
Don't know how I'd update the firmware when the computer won't recognize the device.

Hi, i guess your mp3 player is malfunction. Might have been affected by Virus. You can reset it How to reset mp3 player
How to reset mp3 player
SanDisk Sansa MP3 Players are portable devices that play music, video and share pictures. These particular MP3 players are popular options due to their use of MicroSD cards, which offer constant memory expansion by simply rotating the use of various SanDisk memory cards. As with many portable music devices, however, these players occasionally "freezes up" and needs to be reset to resume normal operation. This is a simple process that can be completed with minimal effort.
Slide the power button on your SanDisk Sansa MP3 player up.
Hold the power button on your Sansa in the up position for about 15 seconds. This action serves as a powering down of the Sansa device.
Wait for your Sansa MP3 player to restart and let go of the power button. Actions taken during your last operation since powering down normally have been deleted and your player is now reset.
That is going to be very hard to find - I hope I am not offending anyone, but I think mp3 players are too complicated now for most people to handle. You want to find one, such as a Sansa Clip, that has a "Resume" feature that allows you to leave off where you last started - the only problem is you have to go into the player's menu initially to set the player to Resume. The Apple iPod Nano is another candidate - if you turn it off when you are listening to music, it will resume when you turn it back on. Of course, anything can go wrong - if you have to reset the player for any reason, you will need to get back to your songs manually. If you are looking for a really, super-simple mp3 player that will just work without problems - I can't think of any.
Is it on NTSC Display? In order for mine to play videos, It has to be on this setting. To change it to that, Go to settings, in the "more" category on the menu, then go to"system settings", then to "display"and it will be the second one listed. click on that spot and when it asks if you want NTSC or PAL, choose NTSC. Hope that helps!! ^_^
I have an e260. I use it for audiobooks a lot. I just press pause (centre top of the dial), and the track will resume from there next time (unless I go back to the main menu for radio of course.)
it sounsd like you are having a firmware issue..What I would recommend you to do is to update the firmware that is on your device..and that should solve the problems you are having..I hope this helps

It seems like your E250R is experiencing a temporary system error due to a corrupted song, and needs to be reset.
Try to "Soft Reset" your player, press and hold the "Menu" button until the LCD light and scroll wheel light turn off.
Since the player was probably left on for more than 7 hours (as you indicated), you would need to re-charge the player before proceeding further. Charge it for at least 2-3 hours.
Next, try to format the player to rid of any corruption then re-transfer the songs. If you have subscription songs, then I would suggest to delete the song you last played which caused the error.
I hope this helps. There is another solution for the player, but for now this might actually resolve the issue. Let me know the results. :)
I had the same problem with mine. So i was using the program Windows Midea Player when i converted my songs to my MP3 player which at first they were in WMA format. then i tryed to change. so i changed the format to MP3 and that put the songs into order of the album.
