I have a maytag over capacity plus heavy duty 2 speed 10 cycle washer it fills with water fine you hear the motor kick in to girate but doesent spin or you put it on spin cycle it sounds like it is spinning you open washer door the drum doesent spin during spin cycle the waqter comes out drain but drum doesent spin

The motor is working, but the mechanism not engaged by the helix so the shaft can not move therefore no agitation or spinning. Motor is designed to turn 2 directions: clockwise and counterclockwise for agitation and spinning. Therefore there are 2 mechanisms to assist these tasks. The drain is control by a separate pump and it is still good also.
The tube has to be out to replace the helix for agitation and a part to engage with the spinning rotation to release the brake so the spinning function can work. These parts are cheap, but the the labor is not. Hope this can help

Maytag model lat 9605 aae fills with water but want agitate or spin out but works fine on delacate cycle thought it was timer put one on still doing the same thing

replace the motor brushes this is common it wont spin or do main cycles but easy go it does is worn brushes
take one and and check the lenght if its less than 50mm replace them
when they get shorter the motor draws more standing current etc running hotter so....
also check the vacume switch and for and rubbish inside the drum skin

it sits between the motor and transmission
this is a three peice part it is a rather easy repair
