Closed captions only show when you're watching TV. If you're watching a DVD they're called subtitles. Both are controlled by a button on the remote. Closed captions are controlled by a button that's labeled "cc" or "ccd". Subtitles are controlled by a button that is labeled "subtitles" or "sub". Subtitles can also be turned off by going into the DVD setup menu.

Greetings stonephoenix,
I'm in a quandary. My eldery parents (who reside in a different city than myself) are trying to disengage the "subtitles" option while watching their DVDs. I read your earlier response to a similar query and I believe that my folks will have to actually naviagate the Coby 224 remote control to disengage the subtitles--yes? They just bought this inexpensive unit and are having troubles with their remote control. They have already done the obvious and tested out the batteries, and that is not the source of the troubles. They still can't operate the remote. UGH!
Until they can get to the retailer where they purchased the unit, is there any way they can turn off the subtitles by operating an actual button on the unit itself?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
