Hi. i have a LG G1 laptop. i am having 2 problems; 1. the display flickers, gets lines, or just fades randomly - but becomes ok for a while if i just move the lid. 2. the mic has stopped working - or, rather, the port or whatever - no mic works on this laptop, when the same mics work on others.

OK ya have a bad connection problem, I think the wires that go between the case and screen may be damaged or loose? in any event ya gonna haveta take it to a repair shop :( The Mic problem MAY be inter-related.. however until ya fix the screen this is a moot point, no? The Mic problem is probably just an incompatibility problem... not aLL mic's work on all pc's even when they work on others.. Oh say try a USB mic they are great.
Display is a faulty display/connector/backlight or SM PSU you need to have this repaired profesionally.
As for Mic
if you are running vista you will need to enable it in the control panel.
Sound/Recording tab/Properties/Device usage
set to Use this device (enable)
