Me too. It worked great for the first 2 days then went downhill......This sucks. I have reset my wireless modem, made sure everything is set proerly, even reset the whole thing but nothing has worked. I also questioned whether or not the case was blocking the signal...but even without a case, no WIFI. Even at Starbucks and Panera where my computer reads signal strength excellent, my itouch isnt finding a thing...

I even turned off all security but that didn't help. Any ideas? I bought this mainly for the internet capability. Please help.

It's since the touch doesn't officially support WPA PSK and only supports WPA2. What will work is WEP and although it is less secure very few people will bother cracking your network. If you continue to have problems with your secured connection try putting the hex key instead of the passphrase (you set hello as your password the hex would something like 0X34Hg65) it is usually displayed just beneath the password you set.

This is not a solution to snobomish's problem, but I did solve mine as far as not being able to get on the internet with the iTouch, even though it was seeing my network and joining it. I'm using a Netgear Router WGR614. The easy solution to my problem was in LAN IP Setup on the router. I did not have "Use Router as DHCP Server" turned on or enabled, so it wasn't giving out an address to my iTouch for it to use. I turned it on and bang I'm on the Internet no problem.

Also, in order to be able to get to my Yahoo email, I had to go into WAN Setup on the router and change the MTU value to be 1492 instead of the default 1500. That may only be a problem for BellSouth DSL users.

I had a slightly different config (using WEP for security), and after endless attempts using Renew Lease, etc., I still got "invalid argument" when trying to connect to iTunes. Finally, I read an Apple note that said to try disabling encryption to see if that is the problem. I disabled encryption on my wireless router from my laptop, and then from the iTouch found and opened my now unsecured network. I got into iTunes with no problem. WHILE CONNECTED to iTunes on my iTouch, I re-enabled router encryption using my laptop. When I did that, on my iTouch a window popped up asking for a password. I got the WEP key provided by the router software and entered it on my iTouch, and the iTunes session continued, and I had full WiFi Internet access. The main thing different is all the necessary handshakes first happened while the linkage was insecure. I don't know where the bug is in the router or iTouch software, but this tactic worked around the blockage. So: SWITCH MOMENTARILY TO AN UNSECURED WIRELESS CONNECTION, CONNECT, AND THEN RE-INSTITUTE ENCRYPTION SECURITY. A similar tactic may work for your set up.

It really not that hard to crack WEP protection and it can be done real quickly (ie within 5 ) so it is not wise at all to "downgrade" to WEP security. spend the extra $ for a WPA2 router which is nearly impossible to crack

LISTEN CLOSE! The **** at Apple Support are wrong about WEP vs WPA. WPA works fine. You will have to update your firmware - BEWARE: Your IP addresses and other info willl potentially lost (at least if you are using NetGear router) - WRITE IT ALL DOWN BEFORE YOU UPGRADE YOUR FIRMWARE - I just saved you a lot of time and headache, I promise. Once you have updated your firmware, YOU CAN USE WPA with your iTouch to access your WiFi. Apple support, for whatever reason, is wrong. I am living proof that WPA works to connect your Safari to WiFi. REMEMBER: WPA works to access WiFi - When you update your routers firmware make sure you write all of your addresses, subnets, etc. down. Then, manually set up your router after it updates - don't let it do it on it's own. This may cause major problems for your entire network. My desktop box even went down before I finally went crazy and called NetGear to start from the beginning. Once you have reset everything to working order your iTouch will work. What a *****. I was ready to shove my daughter's iTouch up Steve Jobs' ***, sick or not. Thank God Netgear hooked me up with free technical support after I berated them for trying to charge me when they do not warn you that you will lose all of your critical information when you upgrade. Once your iTouch can get online you will be happy. I just saved you three hours. Buy yourself a Jagerbomb and drink it for your old pal in Indy.

Using WEP, DHCP enabled on router, the hex key entered on the Itouch as the password works (though it's long). I've haven't tried entering the pass-phrase used to generate the key in the Itouch

Turn on your Itouch, then touch "Settings", you will see "Wifi"...find the wifi that you want to connect to and touch it to activate the wifi.

I have been unsuccesful securing a Wi-Fi network for the Apple iPod iTouch, that I recently bought. It will not install a network while searching. Any suggestions ?

First put security on the router that you are using. Then see if other computers are able to connect to it. If it can already, turn off and on the IPOD touch then search for a network. Once you see the network Select it to connect then it should as for the security key. As for the wireless security on your router make sure that you are using only WEP or WPA the IPOD touch does not support WPA2 yet.

Itouch 8gb, cannot get an internet connection How do I get connected

It has to be thru a Wi-Fi. Go to your settings and make sure the Wi-Fi is turned on. It does not access the net on it's own like a cell phone. It rides on a Wi-Fi. Check your settings be sure the Wi-Fi is on, if you have Wireless internet in your home you will have to set up the wep settings, or your router numbers.

No wi fi for itouch

Usually, all iPods have a WiFi chip imbedded in the device so you have to pay nothing except for your currently active Wireless internet connection. Try checking your modem and making sure it's working for starters. If it is, then go on the iPod and go to settings, then internet connections. Select a valid internet connection and it should automatically connect, given a good signal strength.

If this helped/didn't help, let me know.

Apple ipod itouch connection to wireless internet

don't let the iTouch connect to the wi-fi network it detected automatically - try setting up a new wi-fi network from scratch.
the setup screens will ask for network name (the SSID) the security protocol (probably WPA-PSK if you are having all this trouble) and the password (pre shared key)

should be all you need - good luck
