Sony Qualia and Sony XBR 4 TV

I recently visited a TV store and had 46" Sony Qualia and the 46" Sony XBR 4 hooked up to an Antenna signal. Each TV was hooked up to the same Antenna. The Sony XBR 4 never had a signal problem nor any signal loss at all. The Qualia on the other hand had signal disturbance and loss of picture for a few seconds and returned to the broadcast. This went on and off for the time I was viewing the station via Antenna. The picture quality, shapeness and detailing of the Qualia was much better than the XBR 4 when the signal was on constantly before it lost the signal. The Qualia has a LCD with an LED backlite which the XBR does not have. In any event what else would be the problem here other than an poor signal or weak Antenna strength? Would any of the internal parts have to be replace ie.,. tuners or the alike. The Qualia is about two years old and the XBR was new right out of the box. Please advise.

The new XBR is optimized and designed for a digital signal. It will not process an analog signal as visualy good as the older analog sets. There are many technical reasons behind this.

Considering the newer set, the technology is farther ahead than a set that was made a few years ago. The new set would have improvements in its overall stability and capability for signal processing.

Wow. mostly all new set from the last few years have a dual tuners
NTSC and ATSC and that would depend if or which set will get the better signal. Also remember that off air is analog and the sets are now design for digital.

With Sony KP-46WT520 46 in. Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television, does it receive digital signal over air? Do I need the separate digital converter box? What do I hook up where to get channels? and how do...

Hi Gwen,
This TV set doesn't have a digital tuner and you will need a digital converter box to receive over the air channels.
You still an antenna to receive the signal and then to connect it to your digital converter box. The programming should be easy.
The converter box should come with the user's guide on how to hook it up and program it.

No picture/signal

what u need to do is check your antenna as well as check that your tv is getting input on the av/hdmi/etc inputs, if your tv is still not picking up antenna signal, try on another tv unit or try the tv on anothe antenna signal. If you get no tv signal u need to replace the tuner printer circuit board, the one with the rf tuner module on it. Good luck.

Sony Bravia does not see my digital channels

Hi buck lite,
Your cable company is telling the truth, you have digital cable. When auto scanned for digital channels the tv is lookig for OTR(over the air) signals. These are broadcast signals you will need an antenna to receive. Depending where you are and the type of antenna you use you probably could pick up some digital channels. Let me know if this helps and please rate this solution. Lone99star

Color

If you're using component video cables, check them at the jacks of the TV and video device on the other end of the cables. With component video cables try swapping two of the cables on both ends to see if you can get the color to change, if it does the problem is the cable. If the color doesn't change either the output of the source video device is bad or the TV is bad. Try a DVD player to see if the problem is your original video device. If the colors are good with the test DVD player, your original device is at fault.

Sony Qualia 46" TV Model # KDX 46Q005

This would mean that your signal is being lost. Instead of snow like from a analog signal you get digital breakup when you get low reception. You need to reposition your antenna or get a better one with a little more power. Nothing wrong with your tv though just not strong enough signal.

Thanks
