Make sure the coupling is aligned right and make sure the motor is aligned right. If the motor is in a bind these problems will happen. make sure all four motor rubber grommets are intact
classical sign of a bad motor. the motor has a thermal switch on it telling the unit to shut off when it gets hot. after it cools down, the switch will tell the motor to turn back on again. good luck, i'm pretty sure that's your problem. contact me for further help if needed. thanks :)
sound as if the motor or someting else is sticking release the belt on the motor. check belt for damage. check motor by turning it by hand to see if it is free.
The burning smell could be the motor going out. When the water gets into the tub and makes it heavy it puts strain on the motor and the motor may be getting weak.
heating element is located at the back of the dryer. if you can see a big coil of wires like a long spring laid back and fort to a duct , that is the heating element.
