I have had by tv a little over a year. Today it quit working and the red light starting blinking instead of the green. It blinks 4 times and then pauses and starts again. Nobody will tell me what it means before I shell out 50 bucks for diagnostics. Can anyone tell me what might be wrong.

My tv is a Phillips 42PF9630A/37, and it has no picture. The Green LED at the bottom comes on briefly, but then switches to a red blinking LED. It blinks 6 times long, then 3 short.

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
Blinking codes details to many popular brand TVs are given. Surf the site with patience.

Counting of number of blinks to Philips TVs is entirely different to that of other brand TVs. It is not a direct count procedure. The site have details about how to count the number of LED blinks [Fault Codes] to Philips brand TVs are given; along with details of the faulty circuit location. Type in the brand name of your device, in the search box [at the top right] of the display window and the Search will start at once as you type in, and will show you all the related posts. It will make surf easy.

My 42PF5321D/37 will not turn on, just flashes a red standby light. I have a Philips Plasma model number 42PF5321D/37.

Most likely a power supply problem. If it's covered under the warranty take it in right away and have them fix it. If not a good Philip's service shop can fix it. They may have a flat fee repair charge?

Plasma tv in protect mode

Hi,

One of the PCB's inside has an incorrect voltage/short or dry joint, all TV now days have a diagnostic startup mode which checks all the boards, one of yours threw up a problem so the TV put itself into Protect Mode so that it doesn't do anymore damage.

Get it checked out by an engineer.

Thanks
