My Sony Bravia KLV-40U100M has audio but the screen is black. No picture. Could it be the lamp? The unit is only a little over 2 years old

Correct. You have to connect the antenna to another box and then take the output of that box to the TV. An old VCR is ideal as this box.

Hello. When a backlit LCD screen becomes pink or red in color (I've seen other color variations too), it is the backlight lamp itself. A fault it the bulb causes the wave length of light that we see to change, and our eyes perceive the change as a change in color. Replace the backlamp or have a reputable tech service it for you. :)

First remove the back panel from the set. Next look at the bottom and you'll see an aluminum bracket that connects the base to the frame of the set. Remove the four screws, replace the back and you're done.

Check the U24 (CPU reset IC) on the "A" board. It may be burned. If you have a DVM (voltmeter) check for 3.3V across SW1 connections near this device. If you don't have 3.3V, U24 is bad. This part is not available from Sony. The TV may work if you just remove U24 from the board. I posted this fix on Agoraquest also, you can read more there (I'm "Roundabout" on that forum). tv smoked and will not power on

If this were just about any other brand, you'd likely be able to find another brand of TV with the same size screen and swap the inverter boards and the LVDS board. The problem with Sony is that the company uses internal designations. If you have homeowner's or renter's insurance, it might cover some of the cost. Otherwise, put the damaged set on eBay (you'll get a couple hundred dollars plus shipping) and go buy a new set. Likely, any larger set for sale with a good screen is going to go for more on eBay and finding one is rare.

The U series has two boards and it could be either the system/video board or the power supply board. It will take a tech to tell you which is bad

The resolution on this was to check the surge protector the television was plugged into. Once we unplugged and plugged into another surge protector, the screen went back to normal and the appearance was great. We believe this was due to one of the resistors within the surge protector may have become faulty.

Replacing the screen may cost anything from $ 1000.00 to $ 1500.00 that is for the screen and the labor.

Just bought the KLV-40U400M Sony Bravia Monitor. Did you fix the turn on turn off problem? How much did it cost, labor/parts?

I'm thinking I better get the extended warranty although I wonder if the board will continue to go bad year after year.

I was told the tv could be replaced but w/someone else's refurbished tv. I was very unhappy w/that response.

So how's your tv today?
