Printer makes a grinding noise, shows a hour glass and doesn't respond to commands
Hello,
Have you tried unistalling the drivers/software and then reinstalling it? Also, I see you have done a self-test for the printer, was it able to print out a status sheet for you.
Thanks

Hello Again,
Sorry for the delay. Thanks for the info you sent earlier. You problem is mechanical more so than software related. If you are comfy with opening and tinkering with your printer, please follow the instructions at this link: (HP Support page for your printer)
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum...
If after you perform this task you still have problems, I strongly recommend you take your printer to an authorized HP/Compaq service center. I do hope the above link will solve your issue.
Good Luck and if you have any further questions please feel free to post here at FixYa.

The noise can be caused by a problem with the ink carriage or the
scanner.
Try this:
Follow the steps below in the order presented to determine the source and resolution for the noise
1. Check the scanner (if it has a flatbed)
2. Check the print mechanism
Check this knowledge base from hp
Step three: Service the product
If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem you may have to contact hp to have them service the product.good luck
Hi
if the noise kept happening and the issue was getting resolved by just power cycling the printer (I don't know why you would power cycle the modem.. ), it's possible the the grinding which is not a normal condition ended affecting something inside the printer that is now completely damaged, reason why your solution is not working anymore. (an abnormal condition only tends to get worse rather than better unless a correction is made)
besides suggesting to restart the print spooler service (look in start>my computer (right click)> manage> services).
I don't think there's other option than to have your printer service by hp directly, or simply replace your printer if servicing is not worth it.
sorry we couldn't provide a more define/cheaper solution.

It is requiring servicing if you can open the cover and apply some lubricant oil on the steel rod it will fix the problem otherwise show it service center.
Hope this helps. Please rate my response.
Thanks.
Have a good day

the problem is the printer is not responding to any commands. I get the noise each time I turn it on. The noise stops in about 30 seconds. I did a diagnostic check and it said everything is as it shoud be. I've solved this problem in the past by turning the printer and modem off repeatedly until the hour glass disappears and another screen shows up. This time that solution is not working.
reinstalled software, didn't help. Wasn't able to print test. Printer and computer aren't communicating. I would normally think the printer was screwed up but as I said previously, I have seen and corrected this problem a number of time in the past. In the past turning modem, or printer or computer off for a period of time fixed things but it isn't working now. As I said, if I turn the printer off and on again it grinds for about 30 seconds and then stops but the hourglass doesn't go away and it doesn't respond to commands. It's not communicating because it's in the wrong mode or something. Sorry, that's all I can tell you.
already sent you more comments but have not heard back problem still exist after I've done all you suggestions
I had already tried these steps but I tried them again... no luck... thanks for your efforts.
