I have a Sony KF-42WE610 TV that I purchased back in Nov. 2003. While watching the TV, the screen will go black for about 2 seconds and then come back. The sound remains and the indicator lights on the front do not change. It will usually only do this after it has been on for a while. It will do not many times randomly while watching.

I just brought my kf-42we610 sony authorized service-tv went black would not turn on-I was infromed Sony knows about problem with the fan in back -gets way to hot and basically melts everything-they are fixing free of charge until march of 09
Some of the ICs on the power supply block are damaged. This can possibly due to high voltage or defective IC. What you can do now is to get a new PS block. If you can get me the part number i can help you find it..
no, had the same problem. Its the lamp ballast also called the lamp power block. It supplies power to the lamp, any how some repair shop wanted $450 to fix it, so i ordered the part from sony, part #146879816 ($116.25), trust me this is the part I double checked with many different places. Any how fixed it my self took about 15 minutes, just take the back cover off and the part is right there just kind of follow the screws and the 3 wires, super easy job, I suggest you replace the bulb at the same time, dont by a cheap bulb just get it from sony
