The screen on my dell laptop d610 sometimes will not turn on when starting the computer from standby. And never turn on if running off the battery.
Don't you just hate when your trusty laptop slips into a coma and won't resuscitate?
Jen, the good news is this will be easy to correct. First, I recommend you go into your operating systems control panel and configure your power save settings to avoid going into a stand-by state whether plugged in or running on battery unless as a last resort when reaching critical power depletion on battery mode. Shut your computer down when you are finished and leave it at that. If The you want to leave it running unattended, its okay to configure the monitor and hard disks to shut down after a period of inactivity, b4t on laptops, standby mode really doesn't seem to enjoy a reliable and consistent track record on numerous laptop models. Check your systems bios settings on start-up by pr goes into W5nd6ws by pressing the (delete key). Disable any power management settings in the bios then save and reboot.
If you must for some reason, feel compelled to keep using stand-by mode... when the black screen issue rears its ugly head, hold down the 'Fn' key and press 'F4' a couple of times... this worked for me until i got tired of doing it and disabled stabdby.
