Freezer/water not coming out

I am not sure if this is my exact model number, but my GE side by side has the water/crushed ice/cubes options. The water just stopped coming out, it is still making ice cubes and there is now frost on the inside bottom half of the freezer walls. Also, the top shelf is not freezing my food. Help!

thank you for your reply. I will check that tonight. As I am really clueless on all of this, what will I notice about the tank? Will there be frost on it? If it is a defrost problem, what should I be looking for?

  • needshelp78 Feb 13, 2008

there is frost build up on the back wall, the refrig section is cooling ok, but it appears the tank may be frozen as it doesn't seem like any water is moving. there is no ice on the outside of the tank.

I have the model number now, it is GSS20IEMB WW

GE Side-by-side, model gsh25kgmcbb. Ice crystals beginning to form on the inside back wall of the freezer. First noticed the fresh side "losing it's cool," so to speak. Now the temp in the freezer side is beginning to rise. I have two suspicions: "defrost thermostat," or "defrost timer." Can I check the timer to remove it from the equation and narrow my replacement expense??

you most likely have frozen your tank or you have a defrost problem the tank is in the back wall of the refrig check that first and we can go from there

Icemaker dispenses crushed ice when you select cubed ice

GE has a problem with the flap on the door which lets the ice out , not closing due to a rusted solenoid behind the panel . If this flap does not close , frost will get inside the ice bin , not letting the bin flap open to let cubed use come thru, only crushed . You can defrost the ice bin front and replace the door flap solenoid easily . If this is the problem , repost about replaceing the flap solenoid for further instructions if needed .

My GE Adora side by side will only dispense crushed ice...the buttons seem to be working, as in the light comes on each button when pushed. But only crushed ice!

Turn off icemaker. Remove ice bin, empty it, rinse with warm water and leave to dry overnight.
If this did not help - check solenoid in the freezer behind the ice bin, make sure it's not stuck and has continuity. If all checked out ok, but still no cubed ice - control board or interface board may need replacement, and you'll need a professional to diagnose that.

Good luck,

Loud noise from freezer of GE model GSF25TGTB (Side by side)

Problems not related.  The first is most likely the fan, or possibly water dripping on to the fan and freezing, but usually the noise comes from the fan struggling to run.  The cube problem could be as simple as the ice dispenser being put back in wrong.  There is a metal lever under the ice tray that switches between crushed and cubed.  Make sure it is seated properly.

Ice maker only makes crushed ice, no cubes I have the same problem... The same switch works fine for the crushed ice and water setting but will not dispense cubed ice. It only gives crushed.

hi.
I slid out the tray, found the lever in the back where the rod went in, pulled it down, reinserted the ice tray, and IT WORKED! At first I thought I broke the lever, because I had to hold it down with a knife while I was inserting the tray, but it just must have been stuck.

There is an opening next to the auger that dispenses the ice. In there there is a lever that must move up and down. It actually seats the metal rod on the bottom of the ice maker and controls cube or crushed. Make sure the lever is down (cube position) when you return the basket to the freezer. I had to hold it down while I slid the rod into the opening. Cubes again. http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/showthread.php?t=783

GE Side by Side only dispenses crushed ice

remove the ice cube tray assy, remove all the ice, save the cubes, wash the assy with warm water dry the assy, be sure the lever in the rear of this ice cube assy is moving and spring loaded, move the lever and it should snap back and return if so you know the unit is ok(the cube assy), now with the assy still out of the freezer close the freezer door and select crushed ice and push the pad where the glass normally hit to activate the ice cubes,if the operates and you here a thump and snap and hum most likely your ok,if not you could have a defective auger motor assy, but if you here all the sounds as decribed oped the freezer door and select cubed ice push actuator on despensor door with the freezer door closed, reopen and install the ice cube assy tray bucket assy, push it in firmley, and try it with some ice in the bucket you should be fine,if not replace auger motor assy..
