Technically speaking, SD cards only go up to 2GB. (Actually, some very rare 4GB SD cards exist, but I doubt you have one of those.) Cards 4GB and up are SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) cards. Your camera was designed before the SDHC specs, and thus is not compatible with SDHC cards. This is not something that can be changed in firmware, since there is a hardware compatibility issue.

SDHC devices will accept SD cards, but the opposite does not hold true. SD devices will not accept SDHC cards.

I have replaced the battery and memory card, the camera keeps saying I need to format the card, but then it says it is formatting, then gives another message saying the card needs to be formatted....

If the memory card replacement is an SDHC model card the Kodak z740 will not work with it. The memory card has to be a standard SD card of 2 gig size or less to properly function. Take card out and turn on camera. See if you get same error. You should get missing card error but otherwise be able to operate camera controls such as zoom, flash, etc. If that is fine find old card you used and place back in camera... or purchase a standard SD card from Walmart for 10 dollars

My camera won't accept new 2GB SD card. Keep

Do you have pics on the internal memory? You must format the internal memory with no card in the camera. Then, format the card.

The P850 is specified to use SD cards, not SDHC cards. SD cards max out at 2GB.

I bought a 2GB SD card for my Kodak EasyShare C330 Camera

Buy a 1GB card (or 2). The spec for the SD card format is going to 2GB but the Kodak C330 not compatible with 2 GB SD memory cards.

It says the memory card needs formatting but when i go to format it this error occurs, FILESYS ERROR e00100

The Kodak Z612 only accepts standard SD cards up to 2GB. As you rightly point ot the physical charactreristics are identical, its the internal format of the card that defines SDHC.

Standard SD cards use FAT - which has a 2GB limit.
SDHC cards use FAT32 - which has a limit of 32GB.

Stick with 2GB or smaller standard SD cards.
