Washer will not drain properly.

I have a Kenmore he2t model #110.4756 and continue to get the F21 error message. I know I need to check the drain pump to see if something is clogging it but I do not know how to get to it.

Can someone help? Thanks.

"F21" is a Long Drain error code. This may be an indication that you have an obstruction somewhere in the drainage system. Most commonly, this means there is something lodged in the drain pump or inlet line running from the wash tub to the pump. There is a white screw off cap on the drain pump that you can remove to inspect the pump impeller and clean. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608588-f21_error_code

Included is a follow-on link that explains how to check the drain pump to clean. You may also have to remove the inlet hose that runs from the bottom of the wash tub to the inlet side of the drain pump. Debris and small articles of clothing such as socks or under garments can commonly clog in this area as well causing the drain cycle to fail.

NOTE: The "SUD" error code can often occur in conjunction with the "F21" error code. This is due to air being detected in the drainage system, which can occur if the pump is not running, or if you have an obstruction BEFORE the pump. You need to remove the inlet hose from the pump to ensure it is also not blocked. Correct your drainage system fault, and the SUD error should go away.

NOTE: If these preliminary measures do not correct your problem, you may have to replace the drain pump. It does not take much to damage the pump impeller or motor. Since the error code is generated if the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes, if the pump is damaged and can't pump at the required volume, the error code will continue to appear until the pump is replaced. If the pump requires replacement, the following link explains how:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3574350-replacing_the_drain_pump_in_a_front_load

If you have any questions about this repair, or need additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: If there is no screw off cap on the pump, you need to remove the large hose that connects to the inlet side of the drain pump.

Under the front door there are three 1/4 inch socket head screws. Remove the screws and pull the panel off. The pump is on the right side of the machine. On the inlet to the pump is a strainer which is accessed by turning the access plug counter clock wise. It is quite hard to do-you might need a plier. Clean out the strainer and replace it. Put Vaseline on the O ring and threads to make it easier for the next time. Put the cover back on, and replace the screws

My HE2t was washing and then stopped with an F21 notice and when I retried it the door does not double click and it sounds like the pump is runnig..

The F21 error code indicates a "long drain". If the unit is draining correctly I would recommend checking the pressure switch & hose. Another possibility would be the air dome.

I have a Kenmore HE2t front load washer model #11047561604 serial # HLY1661717 I'm trying to wash a load of clothes and it's giving me a message F21 and it is flashing, I un- plug the washer and try to...

The F21 error code indicates a long drain. Here are some tips that should help you resolve this problem:
  • Check your washer drain to make sure that it is draining properly.
  • Check the drain hose for kinks and clogs. Make sure that it is installed properly per the instructions in your owner's manual. An improperly installed drain hose can prevent the washer from draining properly.
  • Check for excessive suds in the washer tub. Excessive suds can prevent the washer from draining properly and will result in the F21 code. Make sure that you are using the proper amount of HE (High Efficiency) detergent to prevent excessive suds.
Remove any clothes and then use a wet/dry shop vac to drain any water out of the washer.

Arrange shallow pans and/or towel in front of the large item filter shown in the second image below to catch residual water when you remove this filter.Remove the large item filter as shown below. It is likely that you will find a clog in this area that is preventing your washer from draining.

If you do not find any clog or restriction in the large item filter and none of the other issues discussed above apply to your situation, then you could have a failed drain pump. If the pump is damaged and will not pump out water then it will need to be replaced.

F-21 error on my Kenmore HE2t

"F21" (AKA SD) is a Long (SLOW) Drain error (LD). If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes this error code will be displayed. In addition, a "SUDS" error may also be displayed. This may be an indication of a drain pump problem and/or clog in the drain line. You will need to check the following:

1.First, attempt to unplug the washer for at LEAST 30 minutes to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). Sometimes this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches with the unit. If the error code returns, proceed to step 2.
2.Check the drain hose to make sure it is not kinked or clogged.
3.Check the electrical connections to the pump and ensure the pump is running.
4.Remove the drain pump filter and check for foreign objects and/or debris.
To check the drain pump, click on the following link for step-by-step instructions

If the above procedures do not correct the problem, it is recommended by the manufacturer to replace the drain pump.
