I have the same problem on a Gateway mouse never used. I checked Properties and it also says the device (Microsoft) works - but that's the old mouse which is held together with Scotchtape.

Mine is wired ... please advise! TY in advance.

Curser jumps around while typing

Is the computer a desktop PC or a laptop/notebook?
are the keyboard and mouse both located on the same surface? Maybe you're pounding the keyboard , thus causing the mouse to move slightly. If that's not the cause, you can try replacing the battery in the mouse. If that doesn't fix it, try opening Control Panel/Device manager. In Device manager double-click on Mouse. Click on Driver tab. Click on Update driver. Alternatively, right-click on Mouse (in Device manager) and select Uninstall, yes, ok.
Restart the computer by holding down the Power on/off button for about 6 seconds. Wait 10 seconds then press the Power on/off button again to turn the computer on again. When it boots up it Windows will reinstall your mouse.
If you're using a touchpad go into Touchpad properties (usually located in Mouse in Control Panel). In Touchpad properties window you can adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad. On our Lenovo laptop, for example, the cursor would frequently jump, jitter, or otherwise move around when we were typing. Sometimes it would move slowly around even if we weren't typing. After adjusting the touchpad sensitivity in Touchpad properties window the cursor became much more stable, and it only moved slightly if I was really pounding on the keyboard.

A small orange light is on showing on the mouse pad and cursor won't work. If I use a conventional mouse, it will make the cursor move

Hi
It look like your mouse pad has malfunctioned, or the drivers have not been loaded during the boot process or the drivers are corrupted. To update the drivers go to device manager in control panel and right click on the mouse pad device, click properties at the bottom of the menu that comes up and click on update driver and this should then make the mouse pad work unless it has a fault.

Mouse lights up, will not drive cursor

Hi telsmith42,

Please check if the mouse's driver has been installed properly , a good idea would be to check in control panel or system properties --> in the hardware tab --> in the device manager.

In the mouse and other printing devices section , right click the mouse that you see as active and go in properties , it should say , the device is working properly.

When you get this message it means that there is no problem of connectivity between mouse and the computer.

Now if you have a cross at the mouse and printing devices section instead of a mouse , then that means there is no connectivity established yet , which could be as a result of drivers not being installed.

If you see this problem you need to install the drivers that came along with your mouse probably in a compact disc.

If still the problem does not get resolved you should replace the mouse if it's under warranty period which is a case of manufacturer's defect.

Hope this helps ...:)

How to install

Plug in the reciever into the computer and make sure the mouse has fresh batteries. Once you are in Windows, press the link button on the receiver. The indicator light should start blinking. Then within two seconds press the link button on the bottom of the mouse, the indicator light should quit blinking. After re-linking the devices move the mouse to see if it moves the cursor. If the cursor does not move, then move the mouse and see if the indicator light on the receiver blinks. If the device does not blink then try re-linking the devices again.
