The clicking sound is coming from the door lock/switch assembly trying to lock the door but it cannot. After six trials, the error code "FdL" shows up on the display. Press PAUSE/CANCEL button twice to clear it.

The only way to fix the problem is by replacing the door lock/switch assembly with part numer 8181700 and costs about $40-$55. Some vendors listed it as part number 1094190 or PS972231. Below is the replacement procedure.

Door Lock/Switch Replacement Procedure

  1. Unplug the machine and open the door.
  2. Stretch the retainer spring of the seal boot retaining hoop then remove it. The seal boot is the gray rubber around the door opening. The retaining spring is located at the bottom of the door opening. The door lock/switch assembly is located on the right side of the door opening.
  3. Ease the part of the seal boot off the lip of the door opening near the door lock/switch assembly. Remove enough of the seal boot to gain access to the door lock/switch assembly behind the front panel of the washer. Be careful not to tear the seal boot because it will cause water to leak from the tub.
  4. Remove the three screws securing the door lock/switch assembly to the front panel.
  5. Lift the door lock/switch assembly and pull it away from the front panel then pull it out of the machine.
  6. Disconnect the wiring harness connector and connect the new door lock/switch assembly.
  7. Reinstall the new door lock/switch assembly and the seal boot in reverse order of the procedure above.

Error dl f: door will not lock to start wash

This is obviously a door lock/switch assembly failure. The fault code FdL flashes if the door locking routine fails, after six attempts, to lock the door. You should hear the door lock clicks six times before the fault code flashes. Replacing the door lock/switch assembly is the only viable solution and it's a do-it-yourself repair. You only need a pair of needle-nose pliers to stretch the door gasket retaining hoop and a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws securing the door lock/switch assembly to the front panel. Click on the link below for the detailed instructions on how to replace the door lock/switch assembly.

My Duet front load washer door will not lock. I

Sounds like you have a door lock failure due to the fault code you have or it could be a control brd failure. Sometimes if either fails it will blow the other aswell.

Dl on screencliccking noise from behind washer won't run

That is the solenoid clicking. dl is a door lock error, and you can test and replace the door lock switch, but I am doubtful that will correct the problem. I really hope it does, but I have seen the dl code with the solenoid clicking at the rear of the(Whirlpool Duet) washer before and it was a faulty control board. I hope I am wrong, but... You can try unplugging and resetting the washer. In the case I saw, the machine would reset, but gradually got to a point that it had to be reset numerous times. (too many). Anyway, I hope I am wrong and best wishes. (Don't forget to test the door lock switch. Use a multimeter and check for continuity. A lack of continuity indicates a faulty switch. Hope this helped.

My washer has an F dl problem?

Fdl is a code that indicates a door lock error. The clicking sound that you hear is most likely the door lock. This error occurs because the door cannot be locked. The door will try to lock six times before displaying the error code. You have a faulty door lock switch. Hope this helped and best wishes.

I have a whirlpool duet washer front load and its giving me a message of dl f. I can hear it trying to click but nothing happens.

This should indicate a door lock error and the clicking is the door trying to lock. The door is supposed to attempt to lock six times before the dl error is displayed. It is most likely caused by a faulty door lock switch. Hope this helped and best wishes.

F dL symbol on Whirlpool duet HT

It is saying there is a problem with your door Lock. when you close the door does it hold like it use too? try to open and close the door if it doesn't really close properly then you will just need a door latch. If the machine gives you an f11 code then its the main computer board that can also give your the door lock error. I would check the door first though.

Washer displays DL error

The FdL fault is a door lock error code. It sounds like you may have a bad door latch. Unplugging it and/or pushing the cancel button will not clear the fault as long as the fault condition exists. At best, you may have to replace the door latch. At worst, the CCU (main computer) could also be bad, causing the fault. The door latch can run about $50. The CCU is about $200. Double check all you wiring first before replacing any parts. I hope this will help you.
