Try this. While in the shooting mode, in the menu under the tools tab there is a mute control that turns all sounds off. Also under volume there is a control for playback volume.

The camera did not record voice of movie when I use the optical zoom

From page 80 of this manual: "Optical zoom blocks sound being recorded when zooming."

Many cameras do this as otherwise the recording will include the sound of the lens being zoomed. There are two possible workarounds for this: 1) Don't use the optical zoom while recording. 2) Use an external sound recorder to record the soundtrack and mix them together on the computer.

Is there a way a sony dcr trv310 can record directly to a san disc or hard drive/

It seams that this camcorder uses digital 8 media for storage ..and it does record digital ..so the transfer should not be a problem ..but it has no slot for any kind of external memory so the direct record to a external drive or flash is not possible ...but ..the way to upload the footage is simple and you just have to use a firewire cable ..and capture the footage on a video manager like windows movie maker..
The procedure is just like any other tape camcorder...just plug the cable ..let the computer see the camera ..and than use the video manager to import or capture the video while it is played back ..
If your operation system does not have a movie maker ..use the one recommended by Sony on the support site ..or any other which has the capacity to capture from device ..
The only way to capture directly to the computer's hdd is also with a video manager..but the camera needs to have the ability to stream ...To try it and see if it is able to ..just plug it with the wirefire...open the movie maker..and choose to capture from device and see if you have any image on the preview..If it does..it means it is capable to stream and capture in real time on the movie maker..than be saved as a video file on the hdd..

Is it possible to convert their old Video 8 movies to digital? If so, how do I do and what equipment do I need?

Hi. Yes, especially since it sounds as if you may still have your Video 8 camera, but if not then get one on eBay etc. - you could always sell it back when finished.

I think you may want to record the movies in another form, e.g. DVD, so they can be played more easily on PC or TV.

If so, a VCR or DVD recorder would still do the job but it would be best to play the movies with the Video 8 camera plugged into a DVD/Hard drive recorder. This would best allow editing before later saving onto DVD from the hard drive.

You could get video capture software to record the movies onto PC but I have not tried this and think it might prove more complicated.

Acer crystal eye webcam

How to Record Webcam Video with Earlier Versions of Windows Movie Maker If you're still using Windows XP, your Windows Movie Maker version might still support capturing video from a webcam. To do this, go to your WMM Movie Tasks and then select "Capture from Video Device". Select webcam from the list of analog devices. You must also select the video input line you want to use for capturing your webcam video. Then enter a name for your captured video file and the location of the drive where you want to save it. Select your video setting preferences for the video you want to capture. To stop capturing, you can either
choose to stop anywhere during the recording session or indicate a specific time limit before the recording stops.
How to Record Video on Your Webcam with Newer Versions of Windows Movie Maker When we say newer versions, we are referring to Windows Movie Maker version 6 which comes pre-loaded with the Windows Vista system. Since Windows Vista is a pretty advanced OS, we expected the latest version of the WMM to support webcam video capture as well. It's very helpful and economical since it comes packaged with Windows Vista, and you don't have to pay the extra cost just to have that tool.
So, the next question now is, how can you record a webcam video using Windows Movie Maker 6. Actually, like we said - you can't. You won't see the "Start Capture" tool in the File Menu of your latest Windows Movie Maker.
Your best bet is to look for alternative and cheaper software that would help you capture whatever you want to record from your webcam. Or, better yet, use the software that comes with your webcam to capture video and then import it into Windows Movie Maker for editing and enhancements. If your webcam didn't come with video capture software, you're in luck because there are free software appllications available for you to download to do such tasks. You can find a good list of webcam video capturing software from this list:

No sound when recording video

Did you set up the camera to capture sound? This Camera has a Functions menu which is deep as the ocean, and standard movie capture does not also pick up sound. Additionally, if playing the movie back over an external device, use the A/V cable not USB, and get a High Capacity SD/MMC memory card if you want more than a few moments of video with sound. I would finally recommend an audio input device, as even when in Movie sound capture mode, the volume is never very loud.
Read the advanced manual completely.

Windows Movie Maker

A lot of times Dazzle provides a calibration program for video and sound. See if you can run that.

There usually is a seperate audio capture control. If you go to your sound mixer and check the recording settings, is the audio capture from the Dazzle selected?

Lizzie,

This may sound like a dumb question, but are you sure that you had the camera set to the video recording mode? Several of the Canon digital PowerShots will show the movie icon on the LCD screen even when the camera is in image record mode. Why, I don't know. Ensure that you set the camera into movie mode by pressing your Func/Set button to go into the Function Menu and then selecting the movie mode that you want to shoot in. Press the Func/Set button again to get out of the Function Menu and you will not only see a movie camera icon on the LCD screen, but also a set of numbers in the bottom left hand corner representing the recording resolution (e.g. 640 pixels) and the frames per second (e.g. 30).

And just in case you did have the camera set in movie mode, make sure that you don't do what many people have inadvertantly done and mistake the video clip for a .jpg image in the playback screen. Videos will of course have the movie camera icon in the upper corner of the image and are viewed by pressing the Set button twice to begin the playback.

If both of these steps were performed properly then your camera may have a hardware issue. As a last resort, try performing a reset from within the menu just to be on the safe side and see if it makes a difference. If not you may need service. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
HeavyDLB
