SOURCE: Funky smell from working Whirlpool Ultimate Care II
ive experienced a smell, somewhat electrical in nature. when the motor is over worked,, restricted incoming power supply, or simply a fluky one time issue and never repeated again.. generally the motor overheats and trips off on overload, shuts off temporarilly and then restarts with no sign of problem.i guess it would be possible that perhaps theres something stuck between the tubs and at high speed spin causes friction against the tubs causing a smell, but not likely cause that usually heard, or prevents unit from spinning at all. other then checking your incoming power supply for at least 110v. probably not much else to look into. Obviously its not my house, and if it was to happen again or with any sorta frequency, call someone in to look at.

There is probably debris in the pump trap. You can tilt the machine back and remove the three screws on the bottom panel. You will see 3 inch removable slotted cover on the pump. Turn this counterclockwise and remove the inner strainer. Clean all debris from this strainer and reinstall into place. Your problem should be resolved.

The filter on your pump is probably clogged with lint and stuff. You have to remove the bottom front panel, 3 torx screws underneath. The panel will drop and come off. Drain off the excess water from the drain pipe you see. The white filter cover is right in front. Get yourself a good plastic bag to collect water. Unscrew the filter cover and twist the filter out. Clean out all the stuff and put it back in carefully.
On some models the filter is located ‘inside’ the big hose from the bottom of the tub. This takes more time to clean.
Next run your washer with 2 cups of bleach, hot water. After it starts agitating stop the washer & let it remain for 2 hours. Then continue the wash.

Suggests that motor not not tuning heavy loads due to worn belt or motor.. you could check if Carbon Brushes are worn if they are fitted some motors dont use them..good luck
This error code indicates that an unbalanced load is detected.
Click the following to learn more about unbalanced loads in the BravosTM washers. The example is for an impeller washer but is applicable to washers with agitators.
Is the wash load balanced? If the load is unbalanced, the washer will display this code while attempting to balance the load at the end of the wash cycle and before the final spin. If the code remains and the wash cycle dial is flashing after the recovery routine has stopped, open lid and redistribute the load. Close lid and press Start/Pause. Is the washer level? Does the washer rock when pushed against the corners? If the washer is not level, the washer may be more sensitive to unbalanced loads. The washer must be level from side to side and from front to back. The front and rear feet must be in firm contact with the floor. Make sure the locknuts are tightened. See the Installation Instructions for details. To remove the error display, press Power/Cancel or Pause/Cancel once.
Look for the "Pause/Cancel" button on the washer control panel. The button will be below the digital time clock and to the lower right of the wash cycle selector.
Press the "Pause/Cancel" button twice to cancel the wash cycle. Unplug the Kenmore Elite washer from the wall outlet.
Check for kinks in the water supply hose while the washer does not have power. Turn off the water supply spigots and remove the hoses from the back of the washer. Check the port screens at the hose connections for sediment buildup and clean as necessary.
Connect the water supply hoses back to the washer and turn on the water spigots. Plug the washer cord back into the wall outlet.
Select the wash cycle and press the "Start" button.
If the error code come back you will probably have to change the water inlet valves. No hard to do and you can fdo this yourself
