I have a Windows XP computer, and I'm trying to install a CanoScan Lide 20 Flatbed scanner on it, but it keeps saying there's a Twain error and it can't recognize the scanner. What should I do?
Well I had a code 15 error with mine LIDE 20. Apparently the scanner needs a certain amount of power to run off the USB port. So I changed the USB port and problem fixed
I had the same problem more than 1 year ago and then found the solution (at least in my case that is) somewhere on the internet. Since I have the same problem with a new computer I searched the internet once more, but did not find the solution. However, last time I was so clever to write down the solution on the disk of my old laptop. The laptop is gone, but not the disk, so I could access it by putting it in an USB enclosure and was able to find the solution once again. Here it is:
c:WINDOWS wain_32CNQLxx (xx is the number of your scanner) should be included in the PATH environmental variable.
Now I know where to look for I found the link where I found it first:

I have installed the software for canoscan lide20 but i am unable to scan. firstly, when i start scanning from the computer it shows "WIA DRIVERS IS REQUIRED" . Secondly, when i scan directly from the scanner than it shows registration required
Hi scheek,
I'm sorry to say that it seems that there is no easy solution to your canner's problem. After searching for a viable solution I came up with:
If this doesn't solve the problem it may be that a part of your Windows XP registry has become corrupt and cannot use the Twain interface correctly. Try the free software at
http://www.my-pc-helper.com/ppc/driver_errors2.php?s=c&id=DRJ7P5LDMY&k=
This is a registry fixer (RegCure) that fixes many problems with the Windows Registry including Twain Scanner Driver errors (see Learn how RegCure fixes your PC section at the link)
I hope this information helps you to solve the problem
Kind regards and thanks for using the FixYa service

I found what worked for me:
1. Open Windows folder
2. Open System32 folder
3. Try to find a file named twain_32.dll and rename it to twain_32old.dll.
Restart computer. BINGO!

I'm having the same problem, but with a CanoScan Lide 25 in Windows Vista. I already got the CanoScan Toolbox for Vista and I still have the problem: TWAIN ERROR.
Sincerely,
Luciano
Yes, I have a Canonscan Lide 20. For four yeasr it worked very good, but suddendlu, it starts to show "twain error". What should I do?
i have a canoscan lide 25 it gives the twain error what can i do.
Every time I click Scan a window pops up saying "Release the lock switch, detach the USB cable and reconnect. Scanner driver will be closed."
After closing that another window appears with the Twain Error, this is such a headache.
I had my CanoScan Lide 25 installed before but thanks to a virus the sonputer had to be re-installed.
Now when I installed the scanner and I tried to scan something it said cannot connect to TWAIN
When I have installed the software and connected the scanner, and
selected the source in the ArcSoft PhotoStudio, I get a message saying
that there is a Twain error and that the driver will disconnect.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing but still have the same problem.
