Helpful, but no instruction on where to get a battery or how to install it as DIY. I don't want to pay out when it should be something I can do for myself.Helpful, but no instruction on where to get a battery or how to install it as DIY. I guess that you have already made sure the battery is charged enough to power the Sat Nav.... In the back of the Tom Tom where the cradle attaches, there is a tiny hole at the top where you can insert a small object such as a sewing needle in order to press the reset button; However, you may find that like mine the hole doesn't line-up with the button and therefore you can't reset the unit unless you remove the casing. if this is the case it's best to search You Tube and watch the short video as to what exactly to do! (it's really not hard)
You will have to go to tom tom web site, explain it to them or get the phone number from the web site, thinking that they might want some money unless you are the original owner and this is not an update.
re-installing is not easy (unless you have backed it up before) the problem is that the TomTom maps have a serial-number hence it is impossible to get the same one twice.
your best shot is to call Tomtom support ( http://uk.support.tomtom.com/cgi-bin/tomtom_uk.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php?Lid=1&p_sid=DRhUfyQj ) and explain what happened, they are known to have installed original maps for free.
Most TomTom GPS have a small reset button underneath. you will need a paper clip to activate the reset button. This should start it up and clear the locked out state you described
try charging the tom tom fully and then reset while it is charging. a tom tom will not reset unless the new battery is fully charged which may take some time if you only have a car charger.
Your set needs to be opened, and have the following checked, regulation semi conductors of the power supply. or resistors changing values at the supply, or capacitors not filtering ripples. thanks
yon should have a reset button on your system but by connecting to the computer shouldn't have changed anything unless you made a mistake and set uo the wrong map.
