Hi cathie
If you have sound it means that the tv is in aux/video mode.
Now make sure that the video output of the vcr is connected to the same aux/video input that has the sound connected to. i.e input 1 or 2 .
Also you want to try and switch with another cable to make sure that the cable you are using now is o.k.
Another way to try the tv input would be to connect something else in that input(cable box ,dvd ,video game etc,)
Try it and let me know.

    Hi again

O.k the cables to the tv are connected right.

What you need to look for now a the back of your dvd is video/audio out.

What you are attempting to connect right now is components out and what you need is composite.

Leave the audio out where they are and try the different video connectors that you will see

What i was saying is that the red and white cables go from the audio out to tv in.

Then the yellow cable goes from video out to the tv video/aux in.

Can you give me the model number and brand name of the unit you want to connect to the tv ?

    Jacques Marin Feb 02, 2010

O.k i can see the connections available at the back of your dvd/vcr combo.

Look at the back of the unit and there will be a row of connectors under dvd/vcr.

The first two are "audio out" L/R and you connect the white and red cables to it .

The one below those two is "video out" , connect the yellow cable to it.

Now do the same to the tv input/aux

    Hi cathie

I was just reading your comments where you said that"all i`m getting is a bunch of x`s and lines" and it made me think that perhaps now the problem isn`t with the wiring.

Have you tried to playback a vhs tape?

Do you get the dvd on screen menu?

Did you get the user`s manual that i send you?

    Hi cathie

Do you have another unit(vcr, dvd.cable box, video game)that you could connect to your tv video input?

Or do you have another tv that you could use to verify that your magnavox is working correctly?

At this point there seems to be one of your units , either the tv or your dvd/vcr that is malfunctioning.

  • Jacques Marin
    Jacques Marin Feb 07, 2010

    Hi again cathie

Well , now we know that the video input on your tv is the problem.

One other way to connect your magnavox would be to get a rf converter.

    Here is an example;

    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Philips-Audio-...

With this type of unit you could have your magnavox and tv working.

If you do opt for that solution, let me know and i`ll help you with the setup.

    O.k cathie

Let me know when you have something new.

P.S I noticed that my solution was in the # 2 position , could you revert it to # 1 , so we could communicate in the future?

An input is an input, that is to say the normal video inputs are these:

Yellow video input marked "AV" (Good picture)
S Video input (Very good picture)
Progressive or component video input (Also Very good picture)
HDMI video input ( HD video quality and the best there is).
you can use any of these based on what types of video ouputs your different players have such as DVD, DVR, VCR, Bluray and so on.

Hi there,

The Zenith player/recorder will be able to record to DVD from an external input such as a PVR. The most likely reasons you are unable to record successfully are:

1. The TV / DVR is not connected to the Zenith recorder correctly. You need a separate cable for recording. You cannot record using the cable that is connected for playback of DVD discs.
2. The TV / DVR does not have "VIDEO OUT" sockets
3. You have not selected the correct external input on the Zenith recorder

If you can let me know the brand and model number of your TV / DVR and how it is connected to the Zenith DVD recorder, I can let you know why it isn't working, how to make it work, and even draw you a setup diagram, if required. It's very difficult to give you the correct answer without these details.

You Zenith DVD recorder will record from the DVR - the real question is, can the DVR send video to the Zenith DVD recorder . . . ?

BElectric

Some of the Newer VHS/DVD units don't have cable inputs. If this is like yours you can hook a RCA Audio/Vidio cable from your Samsung TV Vidio/Audio outputs (if set has them) to VCR/DVD inputs................... Larry

Hooking up a dvd player

as you say that it is old tv so there is a possibility that there may not be audio video socket where dcd player can be connected. OR You will have to purchase one video RF converter.RF converter contains one video input in yellow color & two audio input in red & white colour & one cable connector as output. Connect the dvd output to this converter & tune tv program in which place you receive dvd signal.
