Screen I have a cracked screen on my Tomtom. Is the screen just a sheet to cover the display, or is it interlinked to the mainboard? Im thinking of replacing it, with some clear perspex or similar, but just wondered if thats possible, before I open it up.

That really sounds like the LCD screen is cracked. The front will not feel cracked because of a clear plastic cover sheet but behind it is the LCD panel. The liquid you see is part of the screen leaking. The LCD actually means "liquid crystal display" and that is what you are seeing leak out between the cracks in the panel. You will need to have the panel replaced to clear the problem. You can get the panels from Ebay if you want to do the repair yourself. This type of repair is not covered under the Acer warranty. I agree, applying pressure should (key word) not effect the display if it's the mainboard. Either the technician that replaced the screen was not fully qualified for his job, or he just wanted to do a quick fix to get some money. Here are a few suggestions:

1) Go to ebay or craigslist and get the same one for a cheaper price.

2) Send it back again and tell them that you've already invested a great deal of money into this system and refuse to pay for a faulty console.

3) Do a pressure check. Find that spot that fixed it and a way to consecutively fix the problem by pushing it in that spot so that when you send it back, you can show them that it is in fact the display.

4) There is a small (i forget the exact term) ribbon of wires connecting the display to the mainboard that could be the problem; hence they said it is the mainboard. You'd be better off buying another system before you throw away your money into this one.

If you wind up getting another one, invest in a rubber skin or a hard-shell skin so that if it is dropped again, there should be no problem.

tom toms are 100 dollars @ Walmart. You may be able to find a replacement LCD screen on ebay, and do it yourself. I'm sure you could contact Tom Tom and order a screen, but by the time you get done with the screen and shipping from the factory i'm sure it would cost more then a new unit! Good luck! O by the way i just bought a 120 dollar garmin and its amazing. Voice and all from walmart. I liked it so much bought one for each car.

hey wendy...sorry about the screen but it is the truth....you might be able to find some places on the internet, but the price for the screen alone,might not be worth it....I have not seen too many places where it is successful.

Im taking it back to where i bought it cause its only 2 weeks old and i dont think i should have to pay to find out how to fix it.

Look for a screen on e-bay, I found one and found it simple to replace. MAKE sure the screen is the right one for your GPS

very easy to replace screen here, just couple of screws, and back cover comes off, exposing the screen. you can buy broken p32 on ebay very cheaply, just look for it to have problems other than the screen
