I have had a mitsubishi wd-y57 for about 14 months. All of the sudden, the TV will not turn on. When I press the power button, the timer light comes on and I hear a fan running. Then after a little bit it just powers off. Nothing ever comes on the screen.
Thanks for the info. Since I posted I spoke to a repair guy and found out a little more. I ran the diagnostic (menu and cancel button held down) on my tv. The error code that came back is 66. I have a guy coming out tomorrow to fix a recall warrantee on the TV. I also have Mitsubishi sending me a new lamp.
I tried what you suggested and I got the results that lead to a bad lamp just as you had laid out in your email.

There are a few reasons that this could be happening first one is maybe the lamp died on you, Afraid there is no way to test this other than replacing the lamp. The second problem may be 5 capacitors on the power supply that hold the 12 volt line low and do not allow the light engine to start properly.
First thing you have to do is listen to how it trys to start, It should sound like this, first when you hit the power switch there may be a click then within five seconds the fans then a few seconds more you may here a sparking noise, if all this is happening then you most likely just have a bad lamp

Hello
make a System Reset process. To do this;
If the TV will not respond to either the remote control or the front panel controls and/or will not power Off, press the SYSTEM RESET button with a pointed item like the end point of a paperclip. The TV will turn Off and the TIMER light will flash quickly for about one minute. When the TIMER light stops flashing, you may again turn on the TV. The changes you made the last time the TV was on before you used the SYSTEM RESET button may be lost, however, the changes that were previously saved are not lost.
OK.
Hi, Is it Mitsubishi WD-52628 TV? please confirm model number. Unplug TV from AC outlet for couple of minutes, replug back in, turn power ON and check, still same problem? Lets read error code in TV, press Device and Menu buttons on front of TV at same time for 6 seconds that will activate error code read process. Led will flash in 2 sequence with half second pause. count it and let me know the error code to proceed. Thanks.

I have the same problem with my Mitsubishi TV WD-52631.
The Tv does not turn on and when it does (with no picture) it shut off after 10-15 seconds.
I tried the Error code and it gave me 66
Let me know. I have the tech guy come in but sure it seems like a huge bill.
