When I plug in the printer, the scanner light-bar does it's little self-test thing, and it goes to the right a few inches, then back to its home. But the belt gears keep spinning, creating a grinding noise while the gears slip on the belt. This goes on for way too long, then the printer returns an error. It seems that it doesn't recognize when the scanner has returned to it's home position. Is this something that can be fixed with a new part, or is the circuit board shot?
Is someone know how to fix this problem and some instruction please?
I have the same issue: scanner does not know when the light-bar has reached home position so the motor continues to turn the cog which slips under the belt causing a loud rattling until it decides (incorrectly) that something is blocking the "light-bar" from returning home and it stops and says error "scan unable". I've taken it all apart and I can't even figure out how the light bar is supposed to know when it has returned to the beginning (home) position.... anybody?
Check flatcable connection to main circuit board:
Open cover and release the "Z" cover (right side) which hides the flatcable. Simply stick the cable to mainboard.
Check the silver edges of the cable carefully which used to be the plug-in side to mainboard. Are they OK or is there a broken line in it? If yes, try to fix it by cutting off a piece of the cable, deisolate it anf form it to a new plug in.
If connection is good you might have to open the scanner and readjust the cable and lighting tube.

The error message showing on the LCD says the following: "See Troubleshooting and routine maintenance chapter in User's Guide." Then it says "Scan Unable AP".
I've already checked the flat cable. It's plugged in. I unplugged it and re-plugged it to be sure. That doesn't affect the problem.
