Scanner belt slipping

Sounds like a mechanical problem with the scanner. Please contact Lexmark technical support for assistance.

ok. if its making a grinding noise its the belt slipping. you may not have the print cartridges installed properly. kit could also be the scanner belt that may be slipping. Basically if its not the print cartridges then the scanner is stuffed. Unless you are handy and are prepared to pull thing apart to get to the scanner belt I'd say it has gone to god.

test the power supply to the scanner also test the leads that attach from the power supply to the scanner if its connected to a computer you might have to uninstall it then reinstall it this applies the driver aswell you can do this control panel admistrive tools,computer management,device manager scroll down you should see a yellow question mark? right click to reinstall drivers or ports(com&lpt)ECP printer port right click update driver

I've just got this problem after a powercut, whilst it was not being used but on. If you have only had it a few months send it in warranty.
Think I will have to take this apart and see if the scanner cable/ribbon/drive belt is caught on something or been stretched too much and can be replaced at all.
Its like at one end its caught and wont move the scanning head being stuck somehow, caught on something (doubtful tho').

If the glass of your scanner is too close to the scanner array it can jam. The cure for this problem is to open the case and put some narrow strips paper under the glass. If under Guarantee take it back.
Doubt if you can bypass the self test.

The scanner carret belt might be too loose, so the printer cannot pass through the self-test. Try tightening it a little bit. Also you have to either repair the nobs or solder it.

Try first unplugging the power cables for ten minutes, also restart the computer.

Check if this model has a lock button to secure the scan, this is usually indicated with a lockpad, and is a small tab, if there is one is indicated on the manual.

Plug it back and do the following:

This sounds like an hardware fault, since the scanner starts, but just in case , ensure the drivers are working fine by reinstalling software from scanner disk. And eventually test the scanner on a different computer, for example a laptop. Use the scanner CD to do intall scanner drivers before connecting the scanner.

If it still does not work.

Check if the scanner lamp goes on when you send a scan, if not the lamp must be replaced.

The most likely is that the traction belt had slipped out, one of the mechanichs are stuck, or the motor is faulty.

In this case the scanner must be taken apart, the job can be done at any local repair shop.

Have you been using ink cartridges other than store bought? Reason I'm asking is that i used a refill kit, and tried those half price refill places, only to find ink was leaking out when not in use & clogged up the ends where the cartridge moves across. take a flashlight & look at the ends of the track that the cartridges slide across on, you may see a build up of ink, that won't allow the cartridge to travel as far as it needs to go to run properly.

I had a similar problem, the scanner bar was stuck to the far left side. Here's how I fixed it:

1)Unplug the printer, disconnect any cables/phone lines to it.
2)Lift up the entire scanner bed housing(you will see the printer ink cartridges).
3)Locate the access patch (approx 1 cm x 1 cm square) along the left edge of the scanner bed housing(this is the side that closes in, next to the keypad buttons).
4)Using a small knife blade, peel off the patch from the corners and edges(it's sticky. Save it, you can stick it back over the hole when you're done).
5)Stick a pen through the access hole, and push the scanner bar to the right, approximately 2-3 inches.
6)Now, close the scanner housing, plug in the printer, and power it on.

It should reset and re-calibrate the scanner bar. If it doesn't, repeat steps 5) and 6) a couple times, until the printer correctly performs calibration. Then, you can put the sticky patch back over the hole, and you're ready to go. Hope this helps!
