Here a few thoughts which come to mind.
1. You do not mention whether the radios communicate with the headset no on the radio. I will at this point, assume they do.
2. Be certain to have the radio SHUT OFF when plugging in the audio device.
3. Check your VOX settings. It could be your radio is going into VOX mode.
4. Only use the PTT button on the headset. Do not press the PTT on the radio at any time while using the headset.
5. Check that you have CALL TONES shut off.
6. Lastly, if nothing else works, go back to a basic mode, and set both radios where there are no special features turned on. ie turn off CODE, Qt Filter, VOX, Call Tones, etc.

Best regards.
One further item to check would be the ribs of the plug for the audio device. See if they align with the ribs on the other audio device you say works. This would assure they are touch the same contact points in the radio.
Sorry you felt I was NOT HELPFUL, I would have appreciated a THANKS FOR TRYING. Keep in mind, giving poor ratings can discourage knowledgeable people from helping you.

Hi thanks for the advise. I have turned everything off and still not working. I can transmit fine with no problems using the PTT on the headset. It's not a Vox device so no Vox option or icon when I turn the radio on with the headset connected. I have tried to connect a very simple headset and that seems to work ok for transmitting and receiving so it would seem the radio's are OK. The headset I want to use seems to transmit OK and if I connect it to another source of audio it works OK as well. Its stange that the headset is listed to work with Motorola Talkabout radio's and seems to transmit OK and can receive audio from another sourse OK (an MP3 player) and the radio's seems to work with another cery cheap and basic headset also listed to work with talkabout radio's but they just will not work together!!
