Hi, i have a tomtom 910. when conected to mains the charging light comes on. i haven't used it in a couple of months so connected it to mains and switched it on. i made some deletions to favourites and switcehd maps to us and added a favourite then switched maps back to europe. I switched the power off, so have not really charged it uo. A couple of days later i've tried to switch it on (using mains) and nothing happens, but the charging light comes on? any ideas? i've left it charging overnight but althought the green charge light comes on, i cannot get it to power up?
Got to the following link to find the reset button and see if a reset resolve your problem.
http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?Language=1&query=reset+pin&FID=6965#reset_button
Thats **** and does not cure the charging problem, only way is to replace the battery .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuHmG55tq... however this will only be any good if the battery charger circuit is working and in my case this is what is not working. I am going to connect a 5v poer cable straight into the battery when I find time...

I had the problem of not charging and not switching on but green light working fine.I replaced the battery with no improvement but after solderering the contacts which were slightly tarnished, my 910 is now fully working and now have spare battery too.
Have had the same problem on my GO 910, spoke to tomtom today and was told that there should be 3 rubber feet on the 910, 2 long ones and a "grommet" type foot at the top. This was missing on mine so the tomtom wasn't seating correctly to charge up. might be worth having a look to see if your grommet is missing
Hi nige uk
i m having the same problems with my 2 tomtoms could u plzz let me know or email me some pictures or upload them to see how u solder the contacts....r u talking about the contacts between board and charging pins on the board? how did u do that they r very vey tiny ???

HI I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, GREEN LIGhT ON BUT NOT SWITCHING ON.
I contacted tomtom and with in 2 weeks i have my original 910 back in full working order. AND I DIDN'T COST ME A PENNY.
My tomtom was an insurance replacement due to stupid little thieves, but i didn't have any form of a receipt. I contacted free and they went through the normal try resetting the device BUT HOLD DOWN THE RESET BUTTON FOR 30 SECONDS NOT THE 15 THEY STATE IN THEIR HELP SECTION. Done that and it DID SWITCH ON only for a about 1 min due to the battery not holding its charge. So they sent me all the packaging to return it to them, did ask that i put proof of purchase in but couldn't so just wrote a quick not saying insurance replacement but checked when i activated my device on my computer it was july 2006 so expected to a repair fee thinking it only had 1 years warranty but if you brought after Jan 2005 it has a 2 year warranty. Received it back today full working order and the battery replaced.
Worth contacting TOMTOM number is on www.tomtom.com/368
Hope this helps. Gary
Mine is a 510 GO and was unable to start it up, however, resetting the device has cured it, thought it as a case of a new one.
PS make sure you hold the reset in for at least 30 seconds
Fantastic solution, cured my problem with the unit not powering up via pc or in car charger.
Spent ages trying to find the reset button so the link was a great help.
Lesson learnt .... don't let the battery drain right down!!
Thanks for the great advise.

I just found out my tomtom DOES NOT charge even with the green light on..
Green light comes on when I press the power switch...but the 910 will not power up and the green light goes out as soon as I release the power switch.
Had the Tom Tom 910 not eb=ven 2 years and used it maybe 5 times.
Green light comes on when I connect to power supply via docking station or Car ...but the 910 will
not power up
HI MY TOM TOM 910 GO, ,will not hold it charge, even when pluged in it gos dead have resetmany times
Unit won't power up.
my tom tom was working fine yesterday and tried to turn it on today and the charge light comes on but will not come on.
tom tom 910 will not turn on
I have the same problem but mine is Tom tom go510. please help
will not power on. How do you reset??
All of a sudden when I disconnect the power source the 910 turns off. It will not turn on unless a power source is connected and only if I hold down the power button. Then the Tomtom drum beat as it initializes. I have had it almost 2 years. It normally powered up whenever you plugged in its power source. Not any more. What the heck happened. Its acts like the battery is gone.
THE POWER LIGHT COMES ON WHEN IN MAINS BUT WONT COME ON IF ANY WAY OF FIXING IT PLZ EMAIL ME.
Hi,
I have the same problem. It's obviously a common fault on the 910. Does anyone have a solution.
The problem in many case is the connector in the 510 710 and 910. I have seen them literally fall off, when the unit is disassembled. If you can solder in miniature, you might be able to repair it... resolder all the connections. The two extreme ends bring power to the unit. The external antenna might also provide grounding through it's spring loaded hub. I'm not sure what the circuit is, but the green light does not necessarily indicate charging is taking place. It indicates power is being supplied to the unit, but the connector somehow provides a path too the charging circuit independent of the circuit to make the green light... The only external way to see if charging is taking place, is if it has enough charge to power on, when you get to the map screen, the lower right corner has bars for the satellite indication.. touch that and you go the map screen, that has the battery condition incated in the top right corner.
tomtom go 910 will turn on and freeze with a picture of the unit and a flashing cross on the screen when i dock the unit it comes up with the message formatting!!! To make things worst Windows XP does not recognise the device so i have no control of it that way either! Im guessing its gonna end up in the bin but if you have any idea's before i throw it please let me no.

Ive had my 910 for about 2 years but its now decided not to charge at all though the green light is on. Ive tried the reset button but still no joy, its completely dead. Help!!
Mine is doing the same. I have to charge it on the home charger, takes a few goes to get it to charge though. Sending mine back to tomtom for repair. Its just inside its 2 year warranty :-) Go to tomtom website and raise a RMA, they send a box and you send off your sat-nav. Helps if you have your receipt though.
My 910 worked this past week, went to turn it on today and nothing. Charged it for some hours, went through the re-set push and still nothing.
Any advice? This unit is 4 Years old and not all that 'over-used'.
Does anybody have any pics on how to "resolder" the connections on the back of the TT910?
My tomtom has exhibited the same problems...green light comes on when in the car and mains charger but it obviously aint charging! Sent to tomtom for repair and they have quoted 95 euros which is laughable since the unit cost me 500quid 21/2 years ago and has only been used about 30 times (thats 17 quid an outing!). If anyone has any ideas please let me know - otherwise this is for the recylce bin!
I have the sam problem and just bought maps and Tom Tom is telling me I need to buy a new one and new maps because is over one year old
Power light is on, but screen does not come on. Replaced battery and screen came on but turned it off to let the battery charge overnight and now no screen turn on. Battery appears to be receiving power and charging.
