Shadowing on right side of TV

The right side of the television is getting shaded and is getting progressively worse. Now a darker shadow has come up on the same side. No surround sound system is connected and never has. Does anyone know whats wrong or how to fix this.

I have the same problem and am in the process of trying to find a place to fix it. I started getting a narrow shadow literally 13 months after I bought it (1 month after the warranty expired). I didn't call Samsung until it got worse, but since the warranty expired, they weren't willing to do anything and said the issue wasn't on their recall list. I have heard it's because Samsung uses double sided tape and when the tape starts to come loose, it causes the shadows.

I had the same problem. it was the small mirriors (light tunnel)only one or two of the four mirriors have the tape. mine only had one taped. one of the other ones came loose blocking the light passing thru the tunnel on that side. you can fix this yourself (if like mine you are out of warranty) but it does involve taking some of it apart to get to the tunnel. then remove it and glue or epoxy it in place. mine has lasted for two months so far.you can go to www.avsforum.com and put in samsung shadow on screen it discribes the repair(alot of pages, it happens alot)

Replacing the "light engine" fixed the problem. The technician said that there was a felt-like lining in the light engine to prevent undesirable reflections from the insides of the light-engine hardware, and that it becomes detached and blocks an edge of the picture.

We had a dark line along the right-hand side that was like looking at that portion of the picture through a 1" strip of very dark glass.

Because the DLP is new technology, we purchased an extended warranty from Best Buy (actually, their Magnolia subsidiary) which covered it.

The new light engine was slightly different physically, and the technician had a hard time getting the picture centered and aligned on the screen after installing the new one. In fact, he gave up on the first one and fetched a second one from his truck. He also had problems with the second one, but finally got everything aligned.

Red & green shadowing on the right side of picture

First thing to try is a convergence but with the red shadowing seems to me that you may have your color gun going. Convergence can be found in your video menu on your setup screen. Once in the menu you can adjust the colors to line up. This usually has to be done on a tv that has been moved.

Yellow verticle bar and blue/yelloe shadowing

You will most definately need to have the convergance realigned... This is a normal thing with projection T.V.s Some T.V.s have a button to push that will allow you to get them somewhat back into alignment but a T.V. pro will need to do the convergance on it if that wont fix it. Hope this helps you out

Shadowing in picture

Try replacing the RF cable going from the cable box to the TV and/or AV cables. I've found that the RF cable from the cable outlet in my place to my TV caused shadowing. If that doesn't work it could be something in the cable outlet itself. I am assuming you aren't using a TV antenna.

Side shadows on picture

it sounds as if there are speakers to close to the tv or the built in speakers are not magnetically sheilded properly (maufacturer defect) if u have or have ever had speakers on the left and right side of your tv then the magnets in them will discolor and distort the screen. sometimes even long after the speakers have been moved away from the tv it will still look that way. you may try going to the library( or online )and looking in tv repair books on how to build a homade degauser unless your tv has that feature built into it in the menu somewhere like some computer monitors do. I had placed the front speaker of a 5.1 surround sound system on top my tv and it cuased that same problem, but i found out that by placing a small round magnet with a hole in the center on top of the tv (after removing the speaker for good) right where the discoloration was.. had to flip it one side or the other to get proper effect...it immediatly took away most of the discoloration and over time it disappeared. I hope this helps. Please email me at [email protected] as to your conclusion in case it will help others. thanks, Adam
