When I turn my computer on, the monitor shows the Dell logo and then goes into sleep mode. I cannot change any settings or adjust anything since the monitor goes blank almost immediately.
Click on Programs --> Setting --> Control Panel
Choose the "Power Options"
in the "power schemes" Choose the Turnoff Montior, turnoff HDD, system standby
and system hibernate as "Never" in each combo box and clikc on apply.
repeat the above process for every power scheme options

We had a problem last night where the computer wouldn't come out of sleep mode. When we tried to restart, we would see the Dell Logo on the Monitor and then nothing else.
When we would press the plus or minus button on the monitor, we got a message saying that it was in energy save mode and to press any key on the computer or mouse but when we did that nothing happened.
When speaking with a friend today I mentioned that our fan was very loud and that my brother had advised us to open up our PC and vacuum out the fan area but we hadn't done it. My friend told me that she had the same problem with her fan and that one day her computer wouldn't start and after having her fan cleaned out, the computer was ok.
So we came home and vacuumed out both fan areas inside the computer and put it back together.
We then tried to start it, the same thing happened. I tried pressing F8 as I read on here. Nothing. My fiance tried F12 and I turned the monitor on and off. When we restarted the computer, it worked.
We're not sure what exactly fixed it but that is all that we did so I'm guessing one of those things helped. Our computer is running so nice and quietly now too.

P.S. Remember to back up your important information often. We almost lost all of our info a year ago when our computer crashed and almost lost it again yesterday. We are backing up onto a portable drive, right now!

Hold down the F8 key at the boot menu choose Safe mode once into windows go to Control Panel turn off all power management by setting them to never in Power options also turn off Hiberbate by unticking etc
That's not a solution, it's a workaround.
FixYa, or WorkaroundYa? Tha'ts not a fix, it's a workaround. Your monitor should still go to sleep to conserve the light bulb and electricity.
This is probably a working solution for some, but it should be noted for novice users that this is a workaround just to get you working and Not a good solution.

Hi,
this could be several things.
1:- Is it on the on-board VGA socket, or do you have an additional ( Added Graphics Card )
2:- the monitors not coming out of sleep or standby mode, faulty monitor-connecting cable-graphics card.
3:- the monitors settings in the bios are incorrect, and set to look for a PCI Or AGP Card.

Start pc in safe mode by pressing F8 at boot up. Select the "Last known good startup configuration" option.
This solved the problem on a friends pc.

Replace the CMOS battery on the motherboard. I just had this problem, I tried everything, finally I replaced the CMOS battery and it's working.

It's a driver problem. Had same problem, here is what I did to solve it. Hooked monitor up to another computer. Monitor worked. Hooked up older computer that monitor was on and hooked my new monitor to that computer. Both worked. Using new monitor old computer I downloaded driver upgrades from Microsoft and upgraded all other software and Video drivers. Switched old problem monitor back onto old computer and all is well. Dimension 8100 and SVA VR-15A monitor. Video card was an older Nvidia. Also lowered resolution to 800 x 600 then adjusted it after problem was resolved. Orig problem was as soon as the monitor turned on it said: N o signal output-Sleep Mode, and went black. I still could look at the monitor set up menue, buit couldn't see results of any set up and part of the menu information was gone. OS was Windows XP, I up graded to SP2 from the new computer, put it on a disc and loaded it into the old Dimension, then downloaded Sp3 via MS site. Took a few hours, but the old system and monitor look like new again. It was worth the trouble.
I have this happen occasionally. I only use nVidia cards, so it may not apply to others (but probably does).
The newest drivers from nVidia have an option for "clean install." Do that, and it should be cleared up until the next time some software/user ends up messing them up again. (Windows updates can be the culprit of that)

Recently, my desktop monitor goes into "power safe mode" as soon as the Windows XP logo appears after the POST on my Dell Precision 370. The computer continues to run. I was able to go into safe mode, and all the devices seemed to be active, especially the nVidia graphics driver. The video settings in the BIOS were also correct along with power management settings. I even tried different monitors. At this point, it seemed as though the graphics card might be faulty.
The last suspicion was the graphics driver, so I uninstalled the graphics driver in device manager: Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager, and when I rebooted the computer, I was able to log into Windows normally. When I went to see check the status of the graphics driver in Device manager, I noticed it re-installed the same driver, but this time it installed correctly and I was able to access the nVidia graphics utility.
If the driver does not roll back or re-install automatically, just download the latest recommended or urgent video driver from Dell or whatever mfr while in safe mode w/ networking or on a flash drive, and install the driver in safe mode, reboot and hope for the best.
* If you have any specific or 3rd party display utilities, disable or uninstall the utility in the startup as they may be the cause.

I found it was impossible to load any new drivers when the monitor is blacked out, so you need to get a newer monitor on it so you can see and run a driver upgrade program or download your specific driver. At least in my situation. Of course, all this was done AFTER I spent lots of time checking cables, hookups and such first. I found a freeware driver program that solved the issue in less than 10 minutes. Called Slim Drivers Free. But it has to run on computer that uses the problem monitor.

The computer ran fine and next day the monitor sayssleep mode after turning everything on, and will not process any further. Hmmm I have tried F1, F2, and F 12. I will try cleaning the inside(fan) and see where that takes me.
everytime it comes out of sleep mode it auto adjusts to the wrong setting and only has the picture on half the screen. messed with all the settings to try to fix it but it keeps doing it. any ideas?
