Ricoh CL7100 Error code SC391-4

We have a Ricoh Model number CL7100 Color Laser printer. It has worked fine and only has 2,000 prints on it. When we moveed it to a new location and turned it on it is now coming up with an error SC391-4 code right after it attempts to cyle through the start up processes. Can anyone help?

I think you may be on track, here is what I have found. I first "swapped" the Cyan and MagentaPhoto Conductors made no difference in error code, so I then removed the color keys for the magenta and cyan toners, then reversed the toner and the drums as a matchig set, still came up with the same error code of SC391-4. I did notice something interesting though, whichever drum and toner set was put in the cyan position when it errored was the only drum to have a coating of toner on it after cylcing through the start up procedures. It appears as if maybe there is a problem with the transfer roller charge or the drum charge but am not sure where that is applied. I did clean the contacts on the front side of the machine that contact the drums. But did not disassemble the rear area to check that. I did look into the contact area after removing the transfer belt and drums and toners but could not see anything that looked like a bad connection, and I cleaned all the metal contacts on the actual drum and toner cartridges. I think that the photo conductor that sits in the cyan posistion is always the one that has a coating of residue would seem to support your view that is has something to do with the Cyan PCU. Appearantly I am not correcting the right connection. So do you have any additional places I should be looking, or suggestions?

There should be spring on the end of the PCU. That is the charge connection. With the excess toner, you have no charge, ie solid copies. It is just depleting the cyan developer. It is obviously not the PCU itself, if you swapped them out. It could be the connection on the rear side of the machine.(either side of the terminal) The back of that machine of a pain to take apart, so if you do, pay close attention.

Also, reseat the cyan developer unit. Check those connections as well.

How to get borderless printing on a CL7100

Laser printers are unable to print all the way to the edges of the paper because of the excess toner dust that will fall off into the printer unit. The only way to get true full bleed laser prints is to use a larger paper size and then cut the edges off.

Full bleed

sure, first you need to use 12x18 paper in the bypass tray. The using your application select to print 11x17. you then cut the paper to 11x17, thats the only way to print full bleed on this system.
