You would need an application, which can use the scanner. If there is no app preinstalled use the DataWedge provided by Symbol on their support pages.

WILL NOT READ 2D BARCODES

That is correct this LASER scanner does not read 2D barcodes. It contains a long range 1D laser engine.

Light source: 650 nm visible laser diode

Datasheet can be found:-

http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Business/Products/Bar%20Code%20Scanning/Bar%20Code%20Scanners/Rugged%20Scanners/LS3578-ER/_Documents/Static%20Files/LS3578ER_SS_1208.pdf

If you want to read 2D barcodes you would require an imager. For long range try the Intermec SR61 it contains an EX25 imager.

We are using Unitech PT630, HT630 for our stock audit at various retail outlets. we get wrong barcodes while scanning. Most of the times, scanner return only 4-6 charectors or part of the barcode is read...

Some bar code symbologies can be read in part (such as Interleaved 2 of 5). Then check the following: the laser reader is clean, and the application can restrict the reading to a fixed number (8 for example) only to read barcodes of fixed length.

VB With MC9090S

Hello,
If you are willing to use VB.NET, then it will be easy. You would need the Symbol EMDK. With that and VS2008 (Express should be fine as well), you only need few coding steps:

1) Add reference to dlls
Symbol.dll and Symbol.Barcode.Dll

2) Finder a scanner
s = Symbol.Barcode.Device.AvailableDevices.First()

3) make a reader
r = New Symbol.Barcode.Reader(s)

4) add data
d = New Symbol.Barcode.ReaderData(1, 1024)

5) enable laser
r.Actions.Enable()

6) enable reading
r.Actions.Read(nrd)

7) add handler
AddHandler r.ReadNotify, AddressOf r_ReadNotify

8) read data in event
msgbox(d.Text)

That is all there is too it. Good day.

My sons had this happen to him this morning... we tried to reset and hard reset... nothing worked... after seeing a bunch of postings about the laser, I used a pen to move move the laser with the unit off... I just pushed it sideways and slid it out of position a bit... anyway, it worked... it's almost like the laser was just stuck...

Handheld Symbol LS4000-I100 barcode reader

you need to use the code book (the programmers book) to configure the reader, you need to tell it how to communicate with the PC (bit rate, stop bits etc....)

this code book should have come with the reader...

this book has barcodes on many pages and also configures the types of barcodes that the scanner can read....

if you do not have the code book you can download it from the maufacturers website
