You have not specified the make and model of the genset. Usually the normal type oil used for petrol /diesel engines can be used typically the grade 40. Please look up on the manual to be more specific.
any good 30 weight will do fine. If yuo run it a great deal like I do mine I put a little STP type of lube in with the oil to help it out there. Also change the oil about every 50 hours so you dont get oil break down
Best of luck
Tom

Great generator, i use 15/40 Quaker State it seems to work well for my uses, i have same one, but is 2000. check your manual if your really concerned, the whole thing, is keep oil fuel, and changed often. Hope this helps mike
You need a quart of regular old SAE 5W30 motor oil with detergent. The engines on these generators are more or less the same as a lawn mower. Don't forget to service/change the air cleaner when you change the oil, that should keep your generator producing full power.
Use 10/30 weight oil fill till : " if it has a "dipstick" fill to middle of hash marks" if not, There in the hole for the oil filler cap their is a knotch cut out of the theads for that cap. fill to just below the top of that knotch . drain plug on bottom of crankcase
