If you want to deuce the size of your band then I have found some instructions on the Fossil website and since most watches are very similar you can try the method described there.

If you need to replace links then you can get them for Skagen (free!).

Go to "fossil.com", go to the bottom of the page and you will see a menu, click on "customer care", and then look under "Product Info" on the left and you will see "watch instructions"

Go down the list to the bottom and under "Phillipe Stark" there is an item "bracelet instructions"

Adjusting a steel band to fit my wrist.

Hi , Steel Bands are made of pieces which connects with pins.
just pull out the pins of the exact piece that you want to remove and then join them by inserting the pin.
Also for small adjustments it can fix by repositioning of end to lock attachment.

I just bought a skagen stainless steel mesh band watch. I am trying to adjust the band to make it shorter. I have the piece the moves open, but I cannot figure out how to get it shut again.

your watch has the skagen signature mesh band. its actually very easy to adjust once you figure it out all you need is a small screwdriver.

How to adjust the wrist band

Wish you would have posted the name brand but, look closely at the band you should find a small slot to slide out a pin that holds the links in. Or look at the buckle and move the spring pin to the correct location.

Purchased fossil ladies watch am4183 at Macy's, stainless steel band is too big, is this band adjustable, if so how.

Check the sides of watch band and you will see the pin ends. They are holding all links together. If there are arrows inside the watch band, they are pointing the way the pins must come out.
To shorten the band you have to:
Extract the pins.
Take link(s) off.
Join the rest of band together and drive pins back.
