If your camera is an SX110 IS, A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

However, if you made a typo, and your camera is really an SD110, the problem would then likely be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free worldwide, and may also include free shipping both ways (free shipping varies with countries). This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

Black LCD and Viewfinder

I have the similar problem as above...Canon 5D

When camera is turned on the viewfinder is black. All other functions appear to be working correctly. I can view pictures on the card. I take a picture and it views on the screen and the spec's come up on the botton of the view finder but the viewfinder is 90 black with a bit of blur. Is this the censor or a mirror...?

Is this fixable and at what approximate cost? Would it be cheaper to replace?

Pictures look further away than they seemed through the viewfinder

Like all point and shoot cameras, PhotoPC's viewfinder is not 100 percent accurate and will slightly magnify the subject. The actual picture will always appear to have been taken further away than what the user views through the viewfinder.
