My daughter has a dell latitude x2 tablet. We bought for her 07/08 from University of Vermont for Business School.
She has problems with it getting very hot and then it shuts down. It has been scanned for viruses and none. Does it need a new battery?
Hello dbessey,
High temperatures can cause a computer to shut down, this is done to protect the system from over heating and damaging components. Its possible the battery or some sort of power issue could be the cause, but its hard to know for sure. Its more likely an issue with a fan or vent, possibly even the heatsink that draws heat away from the processor and other components inside the tablet. Check to see if any vents are blocked or clogged with dust, can you hear any fans running? If not then maybe a fan has failed. Is the laptop used in a very dusty or smoky environment? If so there may be excessive dust and tar build up inside the tablet that is keeping it from cooling properly. The best thing to do would be to see if its still covered under a warranty and if they'll fix or replace it. If not, most repair centers will give it a once over and roughly diagnose the issue for free, if they need to take it apart to get a better look a small diagnostic fee may be involved. Personally I don't charge for anything that takes me less than 30mins to diagnose.
Hope this helps, and good luck.
Please leave feedback if you found this to be helpful, thank you.
I think she leaves the computer on for a very long time, why not try buying a laptop cooler, if problem still persists try replacing the battery too

My daughter somehow changes her cursor to one that to me is a bit animated. Looks like a target with latitude and longitude lines on the scree. I have no idea how she did it or how to remove it. And it is making it nearly impossible to do anything on the tablet. Anyone know how to remove it?
