Just connected HP3600n printer to my HP 7058 32bit WinXP laptop via USB (Port DOT4_001.) Went through install wizard. Printer shows up in control panel but won't print. Went through troubleshoot procedures. Won't even print from Notepad or from Command Prompt. Won't print "Test Page." Printer icon shows briefly when I click print but then disappears. Printer shows ready. No indication of any kind at printer that a print instruction has been sent to it. Ready light just stays on. Under USB Controllers in Device Manager it says: "This device is working properly." Have uninstalled and reinstalled driver. Have tried installing from install CD and doing driver update. Turned printer off and on; rebooted computer. This printer works fine on another computer using the same USB cord. I am definitely selecting the correct printer when executing a print command. Seems like there should be simple solution but it escapes me. ANY HELP APPRECIATED ! !
Your USB ports on your computer are plug and play. If you have issues with your USB port, it is port related, driver related or device related. The following solutions will help you identify the problem to resolve your USB port issues.
To Identify a Working USB Port
Begin troubleshooting your USB ports by checking Device Manager to see if your USB ports or hubs are working properly.
To Update the USB Port Driver
An out-of-date BIOS driver can create issues with your system recognizing the USB port.
Try removing all ports from your laptop, then reboot, and then create just one USB port. Also, go to your hardware devices and make sure your usb ports don't have any question marks or yellow warning symbols. Be sure first that the drivers for your USB ports are installed and working first. This sounds either a faulty USB cord, which does happen, or USB drivers issues in your laptop. The printer is probably not the problem here.
