My OKI C5500 will only print from the MP tray, and will not take paper from the bottom paper tray, even though there is plenty of paper in the bottom tray. Its giving me a 490 Error message, but I do NOT want to print from the MP tray.

you may have to make another tray the default tray
then you select the paper size to print on and put the size paper in the default tray

unless you do alot of prinring Try seting your computer to pull from MP tray. Also check to see if tray is fully inserted in printer to hit paper triger. Sometimes I insert the trat quick and hard and that may solve the problem.

Open the tray and find yout imput roller. You can remove this roller and put it back on the other side. Normally this is caused because it is worn. The inside of the roller is like a new one.

MP tray is not the cassette it this flap that pulls down above it.

The machine will revert to asking to place paper in its MP tray when the information it is receiving about the document from whatever program tell it that the size is not the same as what the cassette is set to...

so, check page size in of document in word program or whatever you are using

also check paper type and size settings match those you just checked in the printers properties under printers in control panel.

If you put a piece of paper in the MANUAL BYPASS TRAY bot the cassette it will print on that.

To get evverything back to normal, turn off printer, delete jobs in print que, change paper size of document in word/excell/etc is set same as paper type in printer, print again.. all should be good...

Unfortunately this may require and engineers visit. If you pull down the MP assembly by using the handle in the middle at the front of the printer you can then see a small "gearbox" at the right hand side of the transfer belt. This is common to feeds from both trays and could be worn. If you remove tray 1 and temporarily tape up the sensor arms to fool the printer into thinking it has a full tray installed, you can the test, by applying a little pressure to the feed roller, to see if it positively moves forward or if you are able to stop it turning. On a brighter note, you may just need new rollers instead of cleaning them.

I had a paper jam and removed the jammed papers. The paper jam cleared and then the Fatal Error 980 appeared. OKI C5500 printer

i changed the settings on media to rough paper & made sure all paper was to come from mp tray, but it does jam frequently, and every time it does, i need to open & re-open the front cover to get it to clear the error that appears. the error reads mismatched paper size, as there is not a custom size of small index cards of 3.5 x 5. 

Possibly a defective paper sensor (small lever in the tray contacts
paper) Try removing, and inserting paper a few times if this clears it
then it was sticking.If that dosen't work then you will have to
disassemble it and inspect the area of the tray switch to determine
it it needs replacement
