Few steps to take the stand and base off the 22" ViewSonic VX2235WM 1- Squeeze the bottom of the base to take the base off from the collar
2-This step is very important. The collar has two parts snapped in together, with 3 snap in each side. Carefully use small flat screw driver to take off the back side of collar

Have somebody take a look at the capacitors in the power supply first, look for caps that are leaking/bulging top, very common failure in LCD monitor.
Please see some failed bad caps album and failed VIEWSONIC monitors due to bad caps here:
I tried to pull the base stand out - no luck. I tried to wedge a screw driver in - no luck and it looked like the screwdriver could damage the plastic if pushed harder. I finally used a wide metal paint scrapper. It went in where the screwdriver would not go and moved to base enough to allow it to pulled out the rest of the way.
Buy yourself some stand alone speakers, a base & two side speakers, they cheap these days, base speaker has buit in amplifier & plugs into mains, or get surround sound 5speakers & a base, again mains powered, loud enough to annoy neighbours on full. Built in monitor speakers are renowned feeble tinny sounds. Right click speaker icon, bottom right, on your desktop toolbar, open volume control, ensure volume sliders set to max.
Here is what I did on my last 2 moves with a 22" LCD. Just wrap it in soft blanket like velour or a comforter and put it in a box so it doesn't move around. You could take off hte base but usually at risk. Most of those bases clip on and aren't really easy to slide out or meant to take back apart. You risk more damage taking it out apart then just wrapping it securely and putting it in a box.
The only advice that I have on this issue would be to call ViewSonic again and as soon as you get a Rep on the phone you need to ask for a supervisor. In the event that the supervisor is not helping you ask to speak to his supervisor. Make a point to mention the issues that you had in the past and then make them aware that you are upset while maintaining your cool because they will be more apt to work with you if you remain calm.
If all else fails you might mention that there is a burning or smoke smell coming from the monitor :-)
