Please check that the sleep timer did not somehow get set. If it's not the sleep timer, check if the panel stays ON longer after it's been off for awhile to cool down. Possibly a heat problem with the power supply or main board.
I am sharing four cases in which your tv either turns itself off or appears to turn itself off.
TV appears to be off
You using your tv as a monitor or your pc is in sleeping mode.
Your cable or satellite Box is not outputting a signal.
TV turns iteself off
The sleep timer is set.
The off timer is set.
Your tv appears to be off:
If you are using the tv as a monitorIf you are using tv as a monitor and the stand-by light only
blinks for a few seconds when you press the power button, your pc is in the sleeping mode. To take your pc out of sleep, press a key from your key board or move the mouse.Tv turns on.
If you are using TV with a cable or satellite Box
If you have a cable or satellite Box your Tv may appear be off because the cable or satellite Box is not outputting a signal.Press the guide or info button on the cable or satellite Box remote control.
if the screen displays info or guide data, the problem is caused by the Box,you must call your cable provider.
if screen does not display info data, change the source on your TV.
Check the tv menu settings...go to where you set the date and time etc... usually in the general section.. Look for timer or timers...turn off sleep timer, turn off power on timer and turn off power off timer...cheers
Some tvs have a sleep timer on it and if it is accidently programmed the tv will turn off at a certain time. You may want to look at the users manual for more info. Or call a local place that fixs tv's for some more input before paying someone or getting a new tv. I had a tv once and it did the same think. I had to get into the menu with the remote and figure it out it had something to do with a set sleep timer so the tv would shut off at a certain time if the timer was set. It sucks if you dont have a remote though hopefully you do. Good luck. MSome tvs have a sleep timer on it and if it is accidently programmed the tv will turn off at a certain time. Press and hold the SLEEP key for three seconds. The illuminated component name turns on.
Release the SLEEP key.
Using the number keys, enter the desired time in minutes (from 1-99
minutes). To set the timer to an umber under 10 minutes, first press 0
and then the desired number (e.g.,05 for five minutes). The illuminated
component name blinks with each key press.
Once the second number is entered, the illuminated component name turns off. Tip Any key press
other than the number keys is ignored. If you don't enter the sleep
time within 10 seconds after pressing the SLEEP key, you must start over
at step 1. The illuminated component name blinks four times and then
turns off, indicating your attempt to program the Sleep Timer has been
unsuccessful.
The Sleep Timer is now set.
Leave remote aimed at the TV. Once the Sleep Timer is set, you can
continue to use the remote without affecting the Sleep Timer. However,
because the timing mechanism for the Sleep Timer is built into the
remote itself, the remote must be in TV Mode and pointed at the TV to
activate the Sleep Timer. Note: If the ON·OFF key is pressed, the Sleep Timer is canceled.
There might be three or more reasons for this:
1) The sleep timer may be on causing the TV to turn off after a preset time.
2) If sleep timer is on and no signal from the remote is received for a preset time (Samsung: 15 minutes) the tv will turn itself off.
3) The TV may have been turned on automaticaly with "On Timer". If so, and no signal is received for a preset time (Samsung: 3 hours) the tv will turn itself off.
4) A fan is not working or a vent is blocked causing the TV to overheat and turn off.
For 1) thru 3), go to the "setup" menu and make sure "sleep timer" and "On Timer" are turned off.
The following instructions are for the Emerson EWC1303/1903 tv/vcr. That's the closest match I could find to the Spongebob Squarepants 13' TV If it's actually in Sleep mode, do the following:
TO CANCEL THE SLEEP TIMER Press the WAKE UP/SLEEP button on the remote control until “SLEEP TIMER” appears. To view the time left for sleep timer press the WAKE UP/SLEEP button twice, then press the MENU button on the remote control to exit the sleep timer setting
If unsuccessful, try unplugging the TV for 1/2 hour, then plug it in and try turning it back on either manually or with the remote. Either of these should solve your problem. Best of luck to you!
