Freezing computer When I put a disk in my DVD player/burner, my computer freezes. It does not do it all the time but lately it is most of the time. Can't seem to be able to find the problem. I ran the windows XP scan but that didn't help. I also ensured the driver was up to date. Any other suggestions? [email protected]

Hi, The problem that you might be getting is with your DVD burner on the computer. Usually there is a time that a mechanical problem occurs especially when you're using it all the time. Have you tried the movies on other players just to check if the copy is good or not? If in case the movie also freezes on other players. It could be the DVD that is malfunctioning already. It may be a substandard DVD that is why it is already freezing up. IF is it ok. you might need to have the DVD burner checked for any mechanical issues like the motor that spins the DVD or the lens that reads the DVD.

Check the disk for scratches, and attempt to play it on another DVD player or your computer, if it has a DVD drive installed. The drive will have DVD written on the front. If the disk isn't a commercial DVD but playable on the computer then the problem is a unsupported format. To make sure your DVD player is working correctly put a known good DVD the player to ensure it still works.

possible dirty or defective lens

Uninstall the program and reinstall it,
maybe the disk with the drivers will solve your problem,
if no disk download the drivers from www.dell.com

or try the manufacturer ofr the dvd drive for the drivers too

also what Service Pacxks do you have installed on this machine
XP will need at least SP2 for some of you high speed devices ie usb2.0

if the disk plays to the end in your favorite player it is a software problem.
if it stops when only playing in approximately the same place it is a hardware problem.

That is the sort of incentive I would add to convince trial users to upgrade to the full paid product, perhaps your license code has been damaged

There can be so many causes for this it is just to many to mention here, and with your input provided there is not much to narrow the scope of your problem. Please provide more detail for example error codes and any other messages that you might recieve before you PC "Freezes" Best and fastest is take it to a pro or your closes vendor.

Check whether your DVD's that makes the media player to stuck. If those disks are scrached,it makes the ROM difficult to get data from it and when stucks at one point the ROM goes on trying get that the data at that point even thought it's immpossible.This causes the player to Freeze.Need More help?

my dvd player does this (its a diff make n model from ur's ) i've found its the discs that it doesnt like, i had to go thru many diff brands of disc b4 i found 1's it will play without problems, hope this helps

The last problem is probably because you have not ?finalized? the DVD yet. Basically what that does is modify how the data is stored on the DVD so that a normal DVD player can read it. It also prevents you from modifying or recording to the disk any more so make sure you?re done before performing this. The part about the freezing is more complex, are these commercially recorded DVDs or something someone else recorded?
