Here is where you can buy the grease

http://www.food-equipment.com/Hobart%20gear%20case%20grease.htm

There is no drain cause it's grease that is used. It needs to be removed manually and the 3 shafts need to be pulled to get all the grease out. If you are not mechaniclly minded best taking to a professional.

My minuteman concrete mixer leaking a lot oil from gear box bought oil seal , but i need to fill it back on what oil should i use and how much ? please advice .thank you . jerry

Not all oils mix well so completely draining the old oil before refilling is important except where you know what oil is already inside, which I note you don't.

You might find an application for your mixer in one of the online application catalogues - just choose your favourite brand. Most oil brands also have a technical department designed to make such recommendations.

If you can't find a recommendation then what you fill it with is very much your choice - many of the traditional oils for slow rotating gears and bearings have disappeared from the marketplace; the very sticky heavy oils and semi-greases have all but disappeared, some of which were blended with bitumen and some of which had to be warmed in order to make them flow enough to pour.

You could equally choose an SAE 90 or 140 EP (extreme pressure) or even one of the modern semi-synthetic multigrade gear oils such as the SX 75-90 or you could go to the extreme and just use one of the many automatic transmission/power steering fluids that have superior lubrication and cooling properties.
It would be sensible to use an oil that is readily available and there is no reason why you shouldn't use a reasonable quality engine oil as most give a good performance in a gearbox and many vehicle gearboxes have specified engine oil...

Where do I drain the oil in a 60qt. thunderbird mixer

If you are referring to the transmission, I believe it's a sealed unit.

  • 3-Speed gear box
  • Transmission: Wide-faced, hardened alloy steel, helical gears fully sealed in transmission lubricant with heavy-duty ball bearings and clutch combine for highly dependable, quiet operation.

Hello, my Hobart AE200 seeps oil from the front panel. How do I top it up? How often does the oil need replacing and with what type of oil? Thanks

It's not oil in the A200, it's #2 weight grease. Although when it gets old enough it can break down far enough to basically become oil (either that or someone put oil in it previously). There are a number of answers written on fixya.com explaining how to disassemble the transmission and change the grease. Fill with 36 ounces #2 grease. FYI : disassembling the transmission and changing the grease is a very messy task and one can VERY easily reassemble the transmission incorrectly, so consider bringing the mixer to Hobart to have the job done.

Hobart 140 Qt Mixer 4 speed. needs the oil changed? what kind of oil to use?

You can use a heavy weight gear oil or call the local hobart branch for it.To remove oil----Look under the mixer where the beater shaft is in the back and you will see a three quarter inch nut, remove this nut and drain the oil then put nut back in.To fill the unit remove the top cover screws and remove the top,you will see a long hexagon nut in length, remove this and grab a funnel then add the oil---be patient it takes time to fill as the oil is heavy.

Transmission Grease for A120 and D300

    Thanks,, great info..

I took mine all apart and the oil was just at the point of turning into grease. Nasty,, brown smelling ****.... I cleaned it all up and just used a sync 50w gear oil.. I over filled it and the extra ran out of the motor end of the gear box... It might have been about 2 table spoons too much.. Now it does not leak anymore.

    Thanks again,, jaybeesee
