Sony Bravia's screen broke without impact

Sony Bravia KDL-40S4100's screen broke without impact. Turned off the TV for 15-20 minutes but stayed in the room. When I turned it back on, the screen was black, with white lines spiderwebbing out from one central point. Nothing touched the TV. Any history of similar problems?

    Thanks, I figured as much.
    I'm trying to find a way to prove that nothing hit the TV, since the insurers are saying they won't cover the damage :(

Thanks for using FixYa. It seems that you'll need to replace the screen completely however, replacing the screen will cost you same as buying a new TV so I'll anyways not recommend you to get it replaced. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

try to force on the tv un plug and use remote when tv iv completly off. and press display 5 vol+ then power and see if tv stays on and in service menu look for eror code .if tv stays on if it cutts off then one of lamp in screen is defective. its mean screen defective

There is a big block in my TV screen covering 8 to 10 inches. I have a Sony Bravia, model KDL-40S4100, and i bought it in 2008.
if it is a black block, look in the menu under closed captions and see if it is in the text mode. if so change back to cc1 or turn off.

No Picture on TV when Power is on
This seet should provide some diagnostic help. The standby light should be blinking a repeated count with a pause. Post that count here. Also, is there sound?

The above info will indicate the problem circuit which will then suggest the remedy.
