Hi Janis.
You have likely burnt the motor. That is the most common fault when the mixer is used for a prolonged time on a compact dough.
The best thing to do is ringing Sunbeam at the number listed on the owners manual, and checking what conditions for repair are offered.
If you have misplaced the manual, then track the number using Sunbeam website: Sunbeam.

We do have the manual; and read it. It recommended we take the mix master to a local repair shop to see if they could fix it.
PROBLEM WITH LOCAL REPAIR SHOP:
There isn't one. We'd have to mail it in to a shop who would charge for their analysis. When we called, they weren't sure they could fix it. We called three different repair centers. We'd incur costs for shipping and the analysis. This is before the cost to repair the mix master. And it still may not be able to knead dough, even though it was sold with dough hooks.
PROBLEM WITH BUYING ANOTHER SUNBEAM PORTABLE MIX MASTER
Based on this experience, a portable mix master may not have enough motor power to knead dough. If this is true, I need to know. I want to know what options I have. For kitchen space purposes, I need a portable; but, I need to knead dough on occasion.
