I had the same issue twice (2 diffrent devices) on LG Blue-ray HX-906 - stuck on "please wait" after switching it on. It turned out to be defective mainboard - main BGA chip (the one with black radiator) has some problem with connection to mainboard. Here is how to repair it:
- dismount the mainboard
- take off the radiator from the main chip
- put alluminium foil around the chip to avoid unnecessary heating up of other parts of PCB
- heat up the chip using air hotgun to about 200 celsius for about 5 minutes.

may be your operating system has been corrupted by some virus or missing files. if it is so reinstalling or repairing windows using a bootable dvd is the best option. goodluck
You may need to update your firmware on your player. I have the same issue and realized my firmware was version 4.20 and 5.20 is the current one. I am updating as we speak.
