DMC-FZ7 Panasonic digital camera won't focus when zoomed

I have a DMC-FZ7 Panasonic digital camera. New problem. It won't focus when zoomed. Can I fix it myself? The service center is in Texas and they won't fix it but will send me a newer model for a price. I love my camera and don't want to throw it away.

Your camera focus problem mostly deal with machanical parts. So changing them easily will solve the problem. But unfortunately you may not do it yourself. Because it is highly complicated process. In deed it needs lots of repairing devices which are found only in services. According to me the service had given you the best answer. Please accept their advice. Good luck.

Picture not focused at 12x zoom

It's probably something to do with a lag or jam on your shutterspeed. so when you hit the button, and move you get a little blur. If its not this you might need to have your lens cleaned inside and out due to the camera zooms and catches the blurs on the lens after zooming so far in. I would recommend taking it to your local camera shop for adjustments and cleaning.

Sounds like the zoom switch is broken. Repair is possible, but is best left to a professional technician. Check with your local service centers.

It's around the shutter button. "w"for wide and "t" for telephoto.

Focusing

On most digital cameras you can point at an object centred in the lens and hold the shutter control in slightly, them move the camera to another area with the focus/exposure set. If your camera gets it's focus as an average of multiple points this may be a little tougher.

Have you tried switching the mode dial to a flower icon?

The mode with the flower icon is the macro mode, you can shoot up to 5 cm from the subject.

Also, if you are very close to the subject, then the auto-focus may not function properly if the targeting area is not centered on the subject.

When I shoot macro with my FZ7K, I use manual focus, the auto-focus generally has trouble focusing up close.

I would suggest trying manual focus.

Panasonic DMC-FZ7 digital camera.

I believe the FZ7 determines that the lense cap is still on when it can't extend the zoom lense because the lense cap is in the way. I would check to see if your zoom lense housing is somehow stuck (could be sand or dirt in it) which is creating enough resistance to make the camera think the lense cap is impeding the zoom lense from extending.

Check the makers website- they will give you an estimate- which I guess will be nearly as much a buying a new camera . Thats the way it goes.
