My washer keeps giving the error code "FE". When you look into the washer you can see tha there is too much water. Ahetr addressing the error code the water will drain to a normal level and continue the wash cycle. The owner's manual states that it is probably a faulty water valve. If this is the case, is it easy to replace?

Yes, the water valves are easy to locate and replace. Just remove the top panel to get access to them. There are 2 of them. You need to know which one to replace before ordering the correct part from LG.

The FE error code indicates the washer is overfilling. This is usually the result of a faulty water valve.
1. Close both water taps.
2. In order to drain out any trapped water, power the washer back on and press the Spin Speed button until No Spin is selected and press the Start/Pause button.
3. Once the washer has drained, restart the wash cycle.
The FE error or fault code indicates that the washer is overfilling due to a defective water inlet valve. The valve is not repairable and will need to be replaced.
Check page 17 of manual.
FE: OVERFLOW ERROR; Water is overflowing (water level frequency is over 213).If FE is displayed the drain pump will operate to drain the water automatically LG WM2487HM series Service Manual Error Display
"FE" error code - over flow error
-Check water conection
-Check Water valve for proper operation
When the "FE" error code is displayed the drain pump will be turned on to pump the water out of the washing machine. LG Washing Machine Error Codes
This error code comes up when there is a over flow condition. The error
is coming up because a part inside the washer has failed. I suspect
the water valve on the back may be the culprit, it's fairly common.
Overflow error. Water level frequency is over 213 If FE is displayed the drain pump will kick in to prevent flooding. Might be a bad water valve OR it could be a clogged water pressure tubing (from tub to control)
FE error code means water is overflowing. The water is over 8 level. When FE is displayed, the drain pump will operate to drain water automatically. Otherwise the pressure switch assembly is malfunctioning. Check and replace if necessary. Part number is 6600FA1704X. The pressure switch assembly shuts off the water inlet valve when the desired water level is reached. It then activates the drain pump when the water inlet valve is not deactivated.
Hello aj546,
Kinda figured there was a miscue there with your error code however... the error code FE refers to the fact that water is overflowing ( normally means the inlet water valve is stuck open and continues to let in water beyond the expected and/or sensed level.. so the water pump turns on to drain it and keep the level down. This kind of problem would probably warrant a aservice call from a tech since the majority of troubleshooting would require diagnosing the failed component itself and is not something that I recommend you try. There are too many pieces of hardware that have a direct impact on how this works and I highly doubt you want to play the shotgun approach..try this to see if it fixes the problem and if not..try that...
Before calling for service.. try this..
remove or disconect ac power from the washer..let it sit unplugged for at least an hour..then try washing 1 towel at the lowest cold water setting to see if that works ..if it does..repeat the process using only hot water.. if that works... then try the same test using warm water.. ( this test may help determine if the water inlet valve .,.either hot or cold is leaking through it)... If you still get the FE test..call for service.. That's the best I can offer via this chanel... BTW..if only one of the two tests fails.. ( Hot water only generates an FE error.. then chances are the hot water inlet solenoid valve assembly is either sticking open or the controls to that are commanding it to remain open... Hope that helped you..'
Regards,
Rick
