Hello,
for Xp to work on your computer, you need to go to your bios settings and change the hard drive from SATA to ATI. Or turn off the SATA
This has to be done before XP can run on your system.
Take care.
No, you do not need to install a new driver as long as that is the same sata hard disk tha used to work in your Gateway computer. Just boot into your windows xp installation cd and let the setup continue.
Should you need further assistance, please let me know.

Hi again, after the "do you want to install or repair", I choose install and it then installs a lot before it stops at this: Stop: 0X0000007E. pci. sys address F76440BFbase at F763D000 date stamp 3b7d855c.
Again, my desktop is a Gateway GT5408.
CPU is a Gateway GT5408 Hi, I formatted it's SATA hardrive (H.D. came loaded with Vista). I then begin the setup of my XP pro and after a couple of mins. of loading files it stops here: Tech info. Stop:0X0000007E
pci.sys - address F763D000 date stamp 3b7d855c.
Will XP even work on a SATA hardrive? Gary.
