Where can I purchase a replacement for crack LCD BOARD. The screen was hit with WI and cracked.
my toodler threw the remote at the lcd and it has a crack on the "inside". there is no picture, just streaks of color running down the middle of the tv. there is sound. can this problem be repaired, replaced or should I just get another tv.
I have a crack in the LCD panel of my 3 month old Sony Bravia TV. Ive been researching and it seems that the Panel itself is more money then the entire TV unit. How is this? To replace the panel cost up to $3400.00 dollars the TV was bought for $2900.00 I know there is a service charge involved but it seems uneconomical and un fair.
A couple of weeks ago we had the screen broken in our LG LCD TV when one for the kids threw something at the screen. We got a quote to fix it and it was going to cost more to replace the screen than what it would be to buy a brand new TV. We shopped around for a new TV, comparing LCDs and Plasmas. In the end we purchased a new LG Plasma, which had a thin layer of glass over the screen for protection compared to the LCD. We thought this would be much safer with a 4 and 6 year old around the house running amuck. And there seems to be no differfence between the LCD and the Plasma. Hope this help someone's problem.
It is Not practical or feasable to replace screen that is cracked. Try to find used replacement tv of same make and model, then you can keep your old one for board parts. or you can pull the boards and try to sell them on ebay, listing mfg, model , and part numbers, and throw the rest of the TV away, it is worthless.

Hi,
Here is how it works. The price of the part itself is $1.279.99. There is a $1,740.00 CORE charge as well. The total would be $3,019.99. Now, you will get the core charge back ($1,740.00) when you return the old LCD. However, if the LCD has a mounted board on it and IT IS CRACKED, then you will not be able to return the core. And you will not receive your core charge back.
Please see below for a link to the screen you would need.
Bravia KDL-46V3000 LCD Screen
You would have to look at the back of the internal panel itself, which would require disassembly of the unit. It would probably be best to let a technician at least tell you if the core would be repairable under the core return process. They would be able to spot non-returnable cores. Usually the biggest cause of non-returnable cores is a cracked board that are mounted on the back of the panel. They cannot rebuild cracked PCB's. They only really care about the board. They will throw out the panel after they accept your core. This model LCD panel is often returned for core value with no problems.
Thanks for the rating.

What did you end up doing? I just had the same thing happen with my 46 inch Bravia XBR4 and am trying to weigh my options.
Thanks!
I had one broken a few months ago. I got a couple quotes.. it was about $200 less then a brand new one. I'd just buy a new one.
For the new TV I'd pickup a screen protector for it. My son threw a toy at my TV the other day and I nearly had a heart attack from the flashbacks. Thank God I picked up one of these a few weeks earlier. It stopped it. LCD screens really break easily as you know. http://www.tv-armor.com

Buy a new tv
You may be fortunate enough to see one advertised 'spares or repair' on an online auction site, unfortunately in many cases that may mean it might also have a broken screen.
I have noticed many laptop computers have very similar screen units right down to the connectors, I cannot say if the same is true for TV screens but I know there are very few actual manufacturers.
I would not be surprised if it turned out the screen was the single most expensive component on a TV, spate parts are usually priced at least four times as much as their base cost, TVs are becoming bigger cheaper and have more features as well as dropping proces.
Easy to be a smartypants, but next time buy a slightly smaller TV and with the money saved take out accident insurance.
Would buying a PLASMA be a bet option here ?
Thanks for all your information. You may save me a few thousand bucks. I am considering just buying a new TV, the same one. What would be more economical for me.. Buy a new Bravia Sony 46 inch, and try to sell my 1st unit for what it is worth. Or.. have a tech look at it, and see what is broken inside of it. Thanks again
SOURCE: CRACK LCD TV SCREEN
I don't have a listing for your model, but it is not unusual for the panel to cost more than a replacement set. As another example, the replacement tube (CRT) for a 27" Sony set can easily be $700. This was when these sets were being sold for $350!! Parts is where these companies rake in big profits. Don't blame the servicer for this one.
Sorry about the bad news.
