Just bought a used unit as described above, and am having problems with the basic setup.
In a nutshell, the setup screen does not appear on the TV. The remote appears to be working, as I can power on/off and do a few other things, but it's inconsistent.
A few minutes ago, with the TV on and set to Video 1, and the DMR turned on, I somehow got the DMR's display to show "SETUP", but nothing shows on the TV screen. Sometimes I can get "NAV1" to show up on the display, but again, nothing on the screen.
I have double checked the connections (cable coming into "RF in" connector, a/v cables are connected (although my TV, an old Sony Trinitron has only one audio and one video input). I have reset the unit's factory settings, too, as well as doing anything else recommended in the user manual's troubleshooting section.
I do not have the IR blaster for this unit, but I'm hoping since I'm not using DirectTV, that won't be a problem.
Hope someone can help...!
Thanks! Barb
ps: I live in Canada, but this unit is set for USA/Canada...
After posting this problem, I solved the issue of the setup screen - it now shows up on the TV. It was a silly mistake on my part; I had the a/v cables plugged into the front TV connectors, not realizing that there were a/v connectors in the back of the TV, those ones being the audio/video IN connectors where I should have put them in the first place ;-o
The remaining problem is that I cannot get the remote to fully function with the DVDR. It works fine with my TV, but I keep getting the "SET 1" message in the display, whether the DVDR is on or off, and the supposed fix for that, to press "Enter" and "2" to change the remote's code, does not work.
If you or anyone here has a suggestion to fix the remote issue, I'd be most grateful!
Thanks, Barb Thanks for your advice, holger!

Here is my solution in case anyone else ever encounters the same issue.
On a whim, I just started holding down "Enter" and "1", then "Enter" and "2", "Enter" and "3" on the remote, then switched to the reverse sequence (3, 2, 1), and after a few cycles, something happened - the remote started working and I was able to cycle through the setup process.
Guess the remote's code was stuck somehow.
Thx again to Ron aka holger for his speedy response!

Re: Panasonic DMR-EH75V DVD recorder - setup problems
Hello..please try the dvd on another tv an only direct audio/video at first...then disconnect them if nothing happens and connect the ordinary rf input to the television..then search the channels on the tv-set..and see what happens...some models use only rf at first why i don't know...you may set a/v out later....please tell me what happens...keep it easy ...good luck ...Ron

Do a hard reset first and then check. If it do not help, it's main system control memory ic will be faulty. Contact any service technician to get this set repaired. If you wish to get more details visit the site linked here. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
It could be overheating.. Is it fairly consistent at 75 seconds? To test put the unit in the fridge for 30 minutes then quickly connect it up and test. If it is longer then 75 seconds then something is getting to hot. I've put hard drives (especially laptop ones) in the freezer if I need to copy off data but it clicks/stops working at room temp.
I bought a set-top converter box from Dish Network, which will operate with the DMR-EH75V through the remote control cable that was provided with the recorder. It tunes in all the available digital channels and uses the RCA A/V cables to connect to IN1 on the back of the recorder. TVGOS is now provided through channel 2.1 (CBS) in our area and it also provides the time signal that keeps the recorder's clock updated. NOTE: ONLY the Dish Network boxes work with these functions. I've had occasional issues with the box after some period - a few weeks - it needs to be rebooted or reset to manual and then back to automatic (which causes it to reboot anyway.) Model no is DTV PAL PLUS.
What a story ! Clean your laser eye with Rubbing Alcohol and a Q-Tip. Down updates to your Recorder from Panasonics Website., and install in your Recorder. Order your replacement parts from Panasonic but I do doubt you will need them.
Yes, that's mostly what I use mine for. You actually copy your VHS to the Hard Drive, then copy from your hard drive to your blank DVD. I'm about 1/3 of my way through reformatting my VHS library (800+ tapes.)
Yes, it would not recognize any type of disc. The disc icon was always present on the display even though no disc was inserted. Also, mine went out while recording from HDD to DVD. Panasonic had mine repaired in two business days and it' s working great.
I have the same unit with the same exact problem. I ended up taking it in for repair and it's now working perfectly. I paid $100 for the repair. I dropped the unit off and picked it up myself. I think $30 additional is charged for shipping and handling in US.
