Vizio tv shocks you when you plug in cable wire or anything into hdmi or audio video ports I plug in a cable wire and it gives you a steady shock like it has a flow of electricity coming out of it, same thing happens when you plug anything in any of the other ports such as hdmi and audio video jacks.

How to connect tv, direct tv box, and home theater together properly ?

Hi Vincent

That would be a heap of detail to go into. Time consuming...

Hopefully this quick pointer might help.

What is HDMI
High Definition MultiMedia Interface

Note the word MultiMedia
This Means....Both HD Video & Sound through the one cable.

HDMI is the latest state of the art connection.
Use this wherever possible. It's made for High Definition
More Convenient

Use a HDMI cable from one device to the other wherever both devices have that port type (connector).

You don't have to pay a premium ridiculous price for HDMI Cables as in the Monster type. Overpriced.
Well made regular brand & Gold pins are nice. Keep them Short.
Long Cables loose quality. 1 Meter is default.

Your LCD TV should have more than one HDMI port for inputting & outputting media (sound & video)

HDMI can be used for INPUT or OUTPUT
Eg OUT to an Amplifier or IN from a device like DVD Player.

On the OLDer equipment you will Have a YELLOW connector. That is used for the Video signal.
The RED is RIGHT AUDIO.
The WHITE is LEFT AUDIO.
Fiber OPTIC cables are a better way to transfer AUDIO than the red & white cables. Cleaner.
But this only works if the 2 devices have an optical port available.

Some New Amplifiers are smart and may require you to select the optical port in the settings instead of the default HDMI.
This may also apply to HDMI Port Choice.
Simply plug the HDMI in first & check.
Use a known source e.g. play a DVD or CD or Radio Reveiver as a signal.
ONE HDMI Port on the TV might be an OUTPUT ONLY channel (PORT) to an External Amplifier (if you wish to use one)

HDMI on external devices will be Outputing video & sound on their HDMI Port
To the INPUT HDMI PORTS on the TV.

Some TV's will fall back to a particular HDMI port on power fail or startup therefore not requiring you to use the remote every time.

External SPEAKERS should have the polarity checked. Eg Red (or marked wire) to the same post on either speaker. This makes sure that the speakers travel forward together at the same time. Pumping sound forward then retracting together....
so they are not fighting against each other.
.......This is called out of phase & distorts sound.

Hope this Helps

Enjoy Your New Entertainment

Cheers

I am unable to get a picture on hdmi when i connect my ps3, but am able to get sound when i use ps3 controller. any ideas ?

Steps
  1. Step 1 Check for an HDMI port Check the back of your television for an HDMI port and refer to your owner's manual for your television's resolution. A resolution of 1080p offers the highest quality.
  2. Most PS3 systems support 1.3 HDMI, but older systems may need a software update from the 1.1 or 1.2 version.
  3. Step 2 Disconnect cables Disconnect all the cables and adapters from the back of your PS3, and then unplug your TV to reduce the risk of shock as you work.
  4. Step 3 Connect HDMI cable Connect the HDMI cable. Reconnect the power cables on both the TV and the PS3 system.
  5. Step 4 Hold power button Hold down the power button until the PS3 beeps and continue holding it for an additional five seconds until the system makes a second beep.
  6. The Playstation 3 should detect the high definition cable and automatically adjust the settings to give you the best picture and sound possible.
  7. Step 5 Test the connection Test the connection. If the HDMI cable isn't working, turn everything off and reconnect the original cables to manually change the settings.
  8. Step 6 Adjust the settings Turn the system back on, select Settings, Display Settings, Video Output Settings, and then HDMI. Repeat the process for your Audio Settings. You can now experience your games with the highest video and audio quality available.

I have vizio sv470m and all of the 4 hdmi plugs stopped working one at a time.

Power doesn't have to be knocked out for a cable box to destroy the HDMI ports on a TV. Thunder miles away will put voltage spikes on the cable system which in turn trashes the main board in the TV. You can get parts for your TV here: TV Parts Universal TV Stands DLP Chips ShopJimmy

Can i turn my vizio m190va tv into a computer monitor?

Unfortunately. the HDMI port on the M190VA does not interpret the signal from a computer. The HDMI signal from a set-top box is different than that of a computer. You need to use the VGA port and the PC audio in on the TV; if your computer doesn't have a VGA port, use a DVI to VGA adapter or other appropriate adapter. You will need a 3.5 mm audio patch cable to use the TV's speakers. See page 25 of the M190VA manual here: http://store.vizio.com/documents/downloads/hdtv/M190VA/364User%20Manual.pdf .

I wish that I had better news for you.

I am connecting Yamaha DVD player to the Vizio M420 NV via HDMI. i have a picture but no sound. how do I gain audio when using HDMI?

HDMI has both Audio and Video (High Definition Multimedia Interface) and should carry both. However, I had this problem with a client just the other day and it turned out that the firmware on his TV needed to be up[graded. Different model TV, but I believe you may need to download the latest software/firmware update via your PC and put it on a flash drive and then flash the firmware on your TV to get it to work. Sorry I don't have the specifics; I was stumped and the Time-Warner guy ended up doing it. I hope this at least sends you in the right direction.

Just set up RX-A700 two things seem wrong. 1. HDMI 1 won't show video if HDMI is plugged in, once plug on HDMI is removed from receiver HDMI 1 works perfectly. 2. HDMI output needs to be held tight or else...

sounds to me like a bad HDMI cable. Just replace it.
If HDMI still wont show, move to another HDMI port. But based on having to hold HDMI cable with hand to steady the connection, it is either a bad HDMI cable, or a bad HDMI port on the receiver. Good luck

How to connect nintedo to plasma tv

Hi,things you will need,
  • Video game console
  • HDMI cable
  • Audio/visual cable.
  1. Plug in your video game console's power source.
  2. Connect one end of the game console's audio/visual cable into the corresponding slot on the console if you have an older game console. If you have a newer console, insert one end of an HDMI cable into your console's "HDMI OUT" port.

  3. Plug the red and white ends of the audio/visual cable into the corresponding red and white audio inputs located on the back of your Vizio plasma TV if you have an older game console. Plug the yellow cable into the yellow "Video In" input. Depending on which model of Vizio TV you have, the yellow input may be located either right next to the audio inputs or it could be located a few ports away.

  4. Plug an HDMI cable into one of your TV's "HDMI IN" ports, if you have a newer console.

  5. Turn on your video game console and your Vizio plasma TV. Press the "TV/VIDEO" button on your remote to cycle through the various inputs. You should eventually get to an input that's displaying your video game console's home screen.
I think that will do.

Have nice day.
